Job Summary:


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for all maintenance functions located at Celebration square and the downtown core including but not limited to ice surface maintenance, ice rink amenities, water features, splash pads, comfort stations, irrigation systems, signage, outdoor furniture, and event support.
  • Perform specialized ice maintenance duties and driving of ice resurfacer; maintain records and log books on pertinent data relating to the operation of refrigeration plant.
  • Responsible for the set up, takedown and maintenance of the Celebration Square ice rink.
  • Performs specified duties as required under the Ontario Pool Health Regulations in terms of water chemistry, filtration, log book, maintenance specific to the regulations of the Celebration Square Fountain.
  • Provides functional guidance and coordinates activities of assigned crews consisting of fulltime and seasonal staff, ensuring efficiency and productivity are maintained.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and provides information and resources for special events, displays and community projects.
  • Provides leadership in the area of Health & Safety ensuring all staff are fully trained and follow all legislated policies and City guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with Corporate and Departmental initiatives, guidelines, policies and procedures and Parks Bylaws.
  • Operates and maintains all assigned vehicles, equipment and tools to accepted standards.
  • Trains and instructs assigned employees in the proper operation of small and large motorized vehicles, equipment and tools as required.
  • Responsible for assigned inventory control as well as purchasing of materials and supplies.
  • Performs all related administrative functions e.g Infor Field Inspector, Tailboard Sheets, Daily Vehicle Inspection Booklet etc.
  • Performs parks and facility sanitation functions.
  • Performs winter maintenance activities as required, which also includes participation in the Park Operations Winter Maintenance oncall program to address issues after hours and on weekends.
  • May assume additional responsibilities in Supervisor's absence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Minimum Grade 12 secondary school diploma; 5 years experience in general ice and refrigeration plant maintenance; experience in, or interest in, parks maintenance functions including irrigation, water features, signs, outdoor furniture, other amenities and hard and soft landscape features.
  • Must possess a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's License along with 5 years experience operating an ice resurfacer, with an excellent driving record (will be verified).
  • Must possess a Class "B" Operating Engineer Certificate.
  • Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Designation is an asset.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Designation will be required.
  • Standard first aid and CPR is required or must be obtained on one's own within 3 months of commencing position.
  • Must have current Confined Space Entry training, or must be obtained within 6 months of commencing position.
  • Must have current Working at Heights/Elevated Work Platform training, or must be obtained within 6 months of commencing position.
  • Must have excellent organizational, recordkeeping and problem solving skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate leadership and teambuilding skills.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain ice resurfacer, and small & large vehicles and equipment.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and Cityspecific software.

Note:
Shift and weekend work may be required. May be assigned to alternate duties/location during the off season periods.

Hourly Rate/Salary:
$ 65, $ 87,671.00
