About Digital Museums Canada (DMC)


The mandate of
Digital Museums Canada (DMC) is "to help build digital capacity in Canadian museums and heritage, cultural and Indigenous organizations, giving people living in Canada unique access to diverse stories and experiences." DMC provides investments between $25,000 and $250,000 for online projects in two streams,
Digital Projects and
Community Stories.

DMC helps organizations build digital capacity by providing expert guidance in digital accessibility, user experience, and inclusive design. DMC is the largest national investment program dedicated to supporting digital projects. Since 2014, DMC has invested in more than 240
projects with nearly $20 million in funding. DMC is managed by the
Canadian Museum of History (CMH), with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

As a student for
Digital Museums Canada (DMC) and Digital Technologies, you will contribute to digital accessibility initiatives through:

  • Assisting with the setup of the onsite Accessibility Lab, a learning space where digital products can be tested for accessibility and adaptive technologies can be utilized;
  • Organizing training sessions for the Accessibility Lab;
  • Researching standards and best practices related to digital accessibility and adaptive technologies;
  • Other duties as required.

What we are looking for:


  • Master's, college or university student (at least 1st cycle in progress), in computer science, digital culture, or museology, (art history, Indigenous studies, Canadian studies, archives, archaeology) or related fields,
  • Knowledge of digital product development, especially websites, including quality assurance,
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and adaptive technologies,

Considered an asset:


  • Knowledge of web development processes;
  • Knowledge of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) principles;
  • Experience in museums, heritage, cultural or Indigenous organizations;
  • Knowledge of Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) and North American Sign Language (ASL) or braille.

Eligibility criteria:


  • Must be studying fulltime at a college or university;
  • Must return to fulltime studies next semester (proof will be required);
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Working conditions:


  • Full time, 37.5h per week
  • Hybrid work, with weekly onsite requirements in Gatineau, Quebec

Compensation:
$21.24/hour to $26.92/hour - variation according to the student's level of education

Status:
May 27, 2024, to August 16, 2024
