KEY FUNCTION:

Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate emergency preparedness activities for HSN.


REPORTING:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Emergency Preparedness and Security.


DUTIES:


  • Act as a first pointofcontact for emergency preparedness services.
  • Develop, deploy, monitor, and improve new or existing emergency preparedness response plans, and business continuity plans in partnership with department leads.
  • Develop and deliver emergency preparedness education programs, coordinator drills, case studies, tabletops, and disaster simulation exercises for all staff.
  • Analyze and evaluate past events and responses within HSN and other organizations to adopt best practices, meet legislative requirements, and continuously improve planning.
  • Work in collaboratively with the Security Advisor to identify hazards and mitigate risk as it relates to emergency preparedness.
  • Work collaboratively with the Building Services team as it relates to critical infrastructure, physical plants, and the process to implement strategies to minimize risk.
  • Participate with the Manager of Emergency Preparedness and Security in specialized project management work and investigations.
  • Participate on community committees, disaster exercises, advisor panels, and other response plan teams.
  • Determine and align improvement projects with HSN's Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  • Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  • Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor's Degree in Medical Science, Disaster and Emergency Management, or in a healthrelated field, from an accredited university.
  • Ministry of Labour "Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps" training certificate is required.

EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a Disaster and Emergency Preparedness department, preferably in a health care environment.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency preparedness activities and legislation, workplace hazards, Infection Control principles, and community emergency preparedness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the design of emergency plans and delivery of adult education programs and training materials.
  • Demonstrated superior attention to detail, time management, organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and build partnerships with external stakeholders, including community and government agencies.
  • Demonstrated excellent presentation and Public Relations (PR) skills.
  • Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  • Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of coworkers and patients.
