    What You'll Do;

    As an Assistant Store Manager with Sporting Life, you will play a crucial role in our operations by managing all aspects of the selling team to ensure that customer service and operational standards are met and exceeded. Assist the Store General Manager (SGM) with timely reporting, sales and profit achievement, P&L management, inventory management, productivity and staff performance, asset control, and staff recruitment and selection.

    You will be a leader in our store, motivating and guiding department managers and staff in selling skills, store cleanliness, health and safety practices, employee relations, and compliance with Sporting Life policies and procedures. In this role, you will play an instrumental role in creating a positive and productive work environment while assisting with staff development through ongoing coaching, succession planning, performance appraisals, and fair and consistent leadership.

    Customer Service

  • Leading by example, providing exceptional customer service to Sporting Life's internal and external customers.
  • Serving as a role model for all customer service standards.
  • Resolving all customer situations, including making final decisions when necessary regarding customer complaints, ensuring 100% customer satisfaction.
  • Operations

  • Working with SGM directs department managers on allocating weekly hours to achieve the store payroll budget.
  • Overseeing delivery of service shop customer service standards and operations compliance within the service shop.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally, ensuring departments are well-maintained, re-stocked, and markdowns are complete.
  • As a senior management team member, I ensure store and employee adherence to health and safety policies and programs.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of WCB incidents and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Leadership

  • Coaching and leading Department Managers and sales teams to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct daily coaching with Department Managers, creating an environment of high performance through focus and achievement of Department KPIs and targets.
  • Execute monthly reviews and coach department managers to develop individual and team performance continuously.
  • Working with SGM, reviews and leads evaluation of recruitment and succession needs of Department and Department Management teams.
  • Supporting contests, initiatives, and in-store events to drive sales and engagement.
  • Training

  • In partnership with SGM, identify critical priorities and opportunities for training.
  • Following up on completion of required training of Department Managers and department teams.
  • Performing onboarding and ensuring orientation is completed within target timeframes.
  • Participating and leading in Management Training & PK Sessions.
  • What You'll Bring;

  • 3 - 4 years of senior retail management experience in a comparable volume store, with P&L responsibility.
  • Superior communication skills; able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Superior product knowledge and strong analytical skills.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and train team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong sense of urgency in dealing with business and staff needs.
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Ability to think in a disciplined and logical manner in an ever-changing environment.
