GROUNDS TECHNICIAN:

The Capital Stewardship Branch is looking for a Grounds Technician for an indeterminate position. The position is classified as a RÉ-03 ($50,375 to $63,754 per annum - Salary under review).

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Supervisor, Gardens and Ground, the Grounds Technician provides a broad range of operational support services in the maintenance and life cycle management, the rehabilitation of the landscape, civil and fleet assets as well as for ceremonial events, snow and ice control activities.

The individual also participates in a wide range of horticultural activities.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION

A post-secondary diploma from a recognized institution in a related field or a high school diploma with an acceptable combination of specific, short-term, or practical training related to the position through apprenticeship programs, colleges, or red seal certifications.


EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the use of specialized turf equipment and techniques (tractors, mowers, aerators, detachers, topdressing, over seeders, sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, etc.).


KNOWLEDGE

  • Of diverse techniques in horticulture, landscape and environmental practices;
  • Of life cycle management to ensure the preservation, development and rehabilitation of heritage horticultural landscape assets;
  • Of workrelated safety standards and work procedures and practices.

ASSETS

  • Experience in ice rink maintenance and equipment operation (Power edger, ice resurfacer, flooding);
  • Experience with landscape installations (fencing and stonework);
  • Experience with irrigation installation and repair competency;
  • Experience setting up public and ceremonial events;
  • Experience with snow and ice control materials;
  • Small engine and mechanical training/experience;
  • Valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certificate;
  • Chainsaw safety training and certification;
  • Tractor / excavating / chipper training and certification;
  • Forklift operator training and certification.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance;
  • Linguistic profile: English essential or French essential;
  • Valid driver's licence (Québec residents will be required to pass Class 3 for heavy vehicles);
