Volunteer Coordinator (Full time Paid 2 years contract )





LOCATION:
Travel within York Region





REPORTS TO:
Director of Human Resources


360°kids has been a leader in the delivery of innovative support services for over 34 years as we work to improve the lives of homeless and at-risk youth and families in York Region.

We are a vitally important community agency serving all of York Region.

At 360°kids, we provide a unique continuum of care approach with a range of programs and services that are essential to the health and well-being of youth and that are proven strategies for helping to keep youth off the streets by providing safe housing options.

The Volunteer Coordinator manages all elements of the volunteer program.

Responsible for assessing the organization's needs and then meeting those needs through recruitment of strategic and skilled volunteers for all areas within the organization, interviewing, placement, monitoring, evaluation retention and recognition of all volunteers.

The Volunteer Coordinator will manage all volunteers and their relationships with staff and clients.


Direct accountabilities include:


  • Assess the overall volunteer program at present and create the steps necessary to move the program forward to meet the needs of 360°kids.
  • Work with program staff to assess volunteer needs, communicate with outside resources via website, community events, postings, corporate partners, publicity campaigns, etc. to covey opportunities to the community.
  • Identification/recruitment of new volunteers from the Board Level to Program levels and ensuring they are properly interviewed, screened, reference checked, orientated to the organization and matched to appropriate role and trained.
  • Ensure there is proper orientation, support and training for all volunteers.
  • Monitoring, supporting, motivating and recognizing volunteers.
  • Staying aware of changing legislation, and policy changes as they relate to volunteering sector
  • Organizing volunteer related events and assist in organizationdriven events.
  • Work with multiple community organizations/corporations across different sectors to engage volunteers and promote opportunities and to share best practices.
  • Monitoring and evaluating all levels of the volunteer program through methods including feedback surveys, exit interviews.
  • Tracking volunteer contributions and assist in developing reports needed for funding proposals.
  • Maintaining the volunteer database through Giftworks and Excel spreadsheets or similar software.
  • Manage Volunteer Program budget and resources, track expenses and reimbursement of expenses.
  • Raise awareness with staff about the need and importance of volunteers within the organization.
  • Communicate with staff and volunteers at program events and functions.
  • Responsible for being visible within the community and attending events such as church and school engagements, Chamber meetings, volunteer associations, and other avenues to ensure opportunities are well known.
  • Organize, operate, and supervise the Youth Ambassador Program (student volunteers)
  • Exercises judgment and initiative in managing contact with the appropriate Ministries, the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, and other interested parties.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:

Post-Secondary education in Volunteer Management or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 3 years volunteer coordination experience working in the not-for-profit sector. Sufficient experience to demonstrate extensive knowledge of working with and managing volunteers.

  • Experience in volunteer coordination and program staff support is essential.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation skills and interpersonal skills including superior presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Relationship building and management skills, to support relationships with peers, staff, partners and ministry officials and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office with the ability to prepare and write reports/records and maintain same.
  • Ability to effectively perform job duties with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively with demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Broad knowledge of community resources and knowledge of the volunteer sector.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification an asset.
  • Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
  • Ontario Driver's licence
