We are a fast-growing organization, currently seeking a Financial Controller to join our high-achieving, diverse, innovating team.


The Opportunity:

This is a full-time position based in downtown Toronto.


Role Description:


  • Oversee daily operations of all accounting activities.
  • Manage and reconcile all accounting operations for Dokainish & Company.
  • Responsible for all financial statements, internal and external audits, budgets, forecasts, strategic business plans, tax reporting and all shareholder accounting and financial activities.
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and financial activities and make recommendations for changes to improve procedures, operating systems, management strategies, budgets, and other financial control functions.
  • Assess and manage financial and operational risk.
  • Prepare timely and comprehensive reports including analysis of financial data, statements, and audits.
  • Maintain positive relationships with business partners such as banks, lawyers, insurance representatives, etc.
  • Responsible for timely end of Monthend and Yearend reporting.
  • Direct preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation.
  • Assist management with negotiation and review of agreements with clients.
  • Serve as advisor to and strategic partner to our Managing Partner, assisting in most decisions related to forecasts, new initiatives to exploit potential profit improvement opportunities, and other avenues in pursuit of operational excellence.
  • Lead other special projects and ad hoc related requests as needed

Skills & Qualifications:


  • A degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Commerce, or a related field is required.
  • 58 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • 3+ years management experience.
  • CPA designation would be an asset.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, Etc.)
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, able to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and the flexibility to adjust to changing operational needs.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and understanding of accounting and finance in a corporate environment.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and longterm budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and profitability and variance analysis.
  • Proven record of improving internal controls.
  • A proactive, handson strategic thinker with solid problemsolving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting.
  • Solid, overall business acumen, work ethic, and a strong mindset for continuous improvement.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to produce quality work within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required); this is a fulltime position based in downtown Toronto, Ontario (not remote).
