Research Officer
**Research and Planning Department

Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Education Services, the Research Officer is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of specific research projects and evaluations; student assessment analysis and reporting; enrolment projections; conducting administrative data analysis; maintaining the Division's mapping websites; performing general administrative duties; and other various duties as required.


Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares reports, databases, and evaluations; provides assistance with program evaluations, surveys, Department databases, map software, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of specific research projects and program evaluations as identified by the Supervisor and Senior Administration; clarifies program objectives; determines the methodology, types of data and statistical analysis required.
  • Provides assistance to Division personnel with research methodology, data collection, survey design and data analysis.
  • Prepares written reports and presents findings of research projects, program evaluations and student performance.
  • As a member of the Assessment Steering Committee (ASC) provides input into issues related to assessment data including reliability, data collection, reporting and analysis.
  • Conducts analysis and presents findings of student assessment data to support recommendations for planning.
  • Determines appropriate methods of data collection; maintains databases such as Division Common Assessments, demographics, and suspensions; conducts and supervises reliability analysis of tools; develops classroom, school, and division reports as required for teachers, administrators, administration, and the Board of Trustees.
  • Responsible for preparing all Division enrolment projections.
  • Conducts various administrative data analyses such as facility use, catchment area, class size, course completion, surveys, census, and income tax, etc.
  • Supervises and assists in the maintenance of the department's website and Division's mapping website.
  • Liaises with various agencies regarding information such as demographic, census data, income tax and birth data.
  • Proficient in current Research and Evaluation methodologies and Division policies and procedures.

Qualifications:


  • Requires a master's degree in research methods or statistics from a recognized University.
  • A minimum of three years' experience conducting research projects and performing statistical analysis using univariate statistics, regression analysis, ANOVA and multivariate analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research design and analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work in an environment with multiple interruptions or requests.
  • Demonstrated expertise working with community partners, government department/agencies and elected Boards.
Ability to communicate sensitive and complex information to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data and preparing reports and executive summaries for use in organizational and programmatic decisionmaking.
  • Experience working with SQL is an asset.
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills. This position requires an individual who can work independently, with mínimal instruction or guidance.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with competing deadlines.
