    Description

    A position as an Associate Director in the financial resource management team at National Bank means stepping into the role of an International Tax Specialist. You will be the go-to expert in reviewing processes and offering guidance on various tax aspects across multiple international jurisdictions and custodians.

    As a tax business specialist, you will establish strong relationships with Financial Markets operations and business lines engaged in securities trading. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Tax Advisory team from NBC Corporate Finance to tackle and minimize risks associated with operational processes requiring tax advice.

    The scope of this role extends over Financial Markets and Wealth Management domains when necessary.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Providing guidance to the Operational Tax Reclaim team and the Corporate Action team
    • Mapping and upholding Tax Documentation requirements with NBC group's Custodial and Tri-Party platforms
    • Staying informed about industry changes and trends impacting NBC businesses
    • Evaluating tax documentation needs and delivering support for new jurisdictions under consideration for custody, tri-party, or bilateral trading as required
    • Identifying risks and offering mitigation strategies for processes related to tax operations such as Withholding Tax, FTT, Stamp Duty, Capital Gains Tax, and related reporting
    • Serving as a subject matter expert in engagements with New Products and Activities groups, Operations, and selected business areas
    • Actively participating in specific business or regulatory initiatives

    Your team:

    The Financial Resource Management team collaborates closely with Financial Markets traders and business leaders, providing advice on the optimal allocation of financial resources. It supervises business growth and evaluates regulatory and tax operation processes for efficiency. Additionally, it ensures the execution of crucial regulatory projects affecting Financial Markets and, when necessary, Wealth Management.

    You will be reporting to the Managing Director of Financial Resource Management, Optimization, and Regulatory-Tax.

    Efficiency and teamwork hold significant importance for the team functioning in a high-paced environment. The group is continuously striving for streamlined processes to ensure the business's success amid limited financial resources.

    This role may be situated in Montreal, Toronto, New York City, or London (UK).

    Prerequisites:

    • A degree in business, finance, tax, accounting, or a relevant discipline with exposure to capital markets
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an international tax operations setting
    • EMEA tax exposure
    • Proven problem-solving ability, collaborative mindset, and a keen willingness to learn
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the capacity to foster productive relationships across various business functions in Financial Markets and Wealth Management
    • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently
