Job Summary

  • The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology (CH&E) is part of the Faculty of Medicine and comprises approximately 22 faculty based in Nova Scotia and Saint John NB, 4 administrative staff, research personnel and 48 postdoctoral fellows. CH&E is a researchintensive and academic department within the Faculty of Medicine. Reporting to the Department Head, the administrator is responsible for the management operational requirements, which include administration, human resources, finance, information technology, infrastructure, and communications. The incumbent acts as the primary resource for faculty, staff and students on all matters related to department operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage departmental finances, formulate budgets. Control and account for all expenses i.e., sabbaticals, retirements, faculty vacancies, business plan additions, etc.
  • Develop and manage policies and short
- and long-term operational plans to ensure that services and standards are provided for teaching, research, and service purposes.

  • Oversee the financial and human resource management for research accounts held by faculty members; ensure compliance with university and funding agency policies.
  • Oversee the administration of faculty and staff human resource matters and serve as an advisor to the Head and department.
  • Responsible for management of personnel, which includes the development of staff and ensure the proper management and delivery of all programs, projects, and activities in their scope.
  • Responsible for managing space and facilities.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, plus approximately five years' related administrative and management experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Must have financial and analytical skills, as well as leadership and management skills.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
