PROGRAM CHAIR - PRACTICAL NURSE, YEAR 2

FACULTY OF HEALTH STUDIES


NorQuesters are difference makers and we're searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to lead our Practical Nursing team as the Program Chair for Year 2.

The Practical Nurse program at NorQuest College is one of the largest in Canada, and is also the largest program in the Faculty of Health Studies (FHS).


Reporting to the Academic Program Manager and participating in the FHS leadership team, the role of Program Chair is complex and challenging as it resides at the very nexus of faculty-student interaction and leadership within the scope of a faculty role.

The Program Chair leads program delivery planning, implementation and evaluation, while modeling professionalism, teamwork, EDIAR competency, and teaching excellence to faculty and staff.

The Chair works with the Academic Program Manager, Vice Dean, Dean, and other stakeholders to establish, implement, and achieve program and faculty goals and objectives, through innovation, creativity, and teaching excellence.


HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Focus on Year 2 curriculum and placements.
  • Design, promote, and support adult educational strategies and practices.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of courses and programs.
  • Participate actively in the coordination and implementation of the Program Evaluation Committee.
  • Lead program reviews and ensure accreditation requirements are enacted within teaching and learning to meet or exceed set standards.
  • Develop teaching and learning strategies in an innovative way to support learner success.
  • Ensure quality of teaching in theory, lab, and on clinical placements.
  • Consult with the Academic Program Manager in determining and reviewing program admission criteria.
  • Lead the recruitment and orientation of faculty and staff.
  • Lead and recommend faculty and staff development and clarify expectations.
  • Engage with instructors to create a teaching and learning environment that promotes EDIAR.
  • Develop a positive, fun, and engaging culture.
  • Coach and mentor associate chairs.
  • Deescalate issues and create a supportive environment without promoting negativity.
  • Promote and support sound adult educational (andragogical) strategies.
  • Manage student admission criteria and readmissions.
  • Monitor student academic performance.
  • Resolve academic issues and student complaints, such as student appeals, as appropriate.
  • Facilitate learning and advocate for learners.
  • Promote and participate in teaching excellence.
  • Interact with key stakeholders, such as the Program Advisory Committee, as well as any assigned external committees and taskforces.
  • In collaboration with the WIL team, participate in timely and accurate communication with key stakeholders related to clinical placements.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Current registration in good standing with CLPNA or CRNA.
  • A Bachelor Degree in Nursing; a Master's Degree is an asset.
  • If your education was received internationally we recommend you obtain an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations.
  • 3+ years' management experience in postsecondary or clinical practice environment.
  • 5+ years' of clinical nursing experience.
  • Experience teaching in a postsecondary environment.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • A Vulnerable Sectors Check within the last ninety days.
  • Up to date immunization records including COVID19 vaccines.
