ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND


The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a non-profit organization created to focus national attention on mental health issues and to work to improve the health and social outcomes of people living with mental illness.

The Commission is seen as a leader nationally and internationally in several areas.

Building upon the work done to date, the core mandate, and the unique position of the Commission, and guided by Changing Directions Changing Lives:

The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the Commission will focus in the areas of, substance use, suicide prevention, population based initiatives, and engagement.

This prioritization will enable the Commission to be successful in meeting its mandate, staying focused, and having a measurable impact for those living with mental illness and their families and caregivers.


POSITION OVERVIEW


MHFA Canada and The Working Mind are seeking an individual based in British Columbia or Alberta to build relationships with organizations, companies, and individuals in order to increase the number of Canadians certified in these programs and to assist in various business development activities related to marketing and project management.

Reporting to the Manager, Business Development, the Business Development Officer will promote participation in these courses with a focus in Western Canada.

This includes publicly scheduled courses, instructor certification courses, and in-house agency courses, among others. The Business Development Officer will be responsible for tracking business contacts and prospects and promotions opportunities.

The Business Development Officer in collaboration with the Manager Business Development will assist with identifying and prioritizing market opportunities to enable growth and ensure that the program and marketing efforts support the programs' strategies and goals.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to individual and team sales targets through selling mental health training for both The Working Mind and Mental Health First Aid. Leverage experience and relationships and contacts relevant to program.
  • Facilitate the preparation and execution of training agreements with clients.
  • Use formal and informal avenues to promote the programs.
  • Maintain accurate data on all business development related activities in Salesforce.
  • Liaise with agencies to identify opportunities and maintain excellent relationships with the prospective clients.
  • Ensure the programs are properly represented online and at events. This includes staffing booths, submitting abstracts, presenting at conferences and assisting with conference logistics.
  • Identify, respond to, and track opportunities for involvement in conferences and events to promote the programs.
  • Monitor the web to ensure the programs' presence is appropriate and monitor the media to identify where there may be opportunities with a particular focus in Western Canada.
  • Assist with marketing activities.
  • Assist with project management activities.
  • Assist with project budgets.
  • Ensure accurate Salesforce database records are kept of new, ongoing, and closed opportunities for agency and community courses.
  • Follow up with agencies that request courses information.
  • Maintain and promote the catalogue of promotional materials.
  • Travel to increase and development sales opportunities.
  • Other duties as required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Passionate about increasing awareness and decreasing stigma about mental health
  • Highly organized, analytical, accurate and detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills
  • Ability to proactively identify, manage and mitigate risks
  • Ability to manage a reasonable volume of work with competing priorities within constrained time frames
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external contacts
  • Personal integrity, sound judgment and an honest and ethical approach
