Department Overview

  • The Canadian Personal Banking team within Corporate and Public Affairs (CAPA) delivers bestinclass external and internal communications to help differentiate TD in the market and elevate our brand. We are focused on enriching our customers' lives through personal, connected, multichannel experiences, while creating an environment where our colleagues can grow and thrive. We make an impact by helping the business drive growth, change and outcomes and we protect and enhance TD's reputation by providing expert advice and sound counsel.
  • Help design strategy and deliver compelling external and internal communications for Canadian Personal Banking (CPB), working collaboratively with partners in and outside of CAPA, including business leaders, marketing, social media and publishing teams as well as control partners in legal, privacy and compliance.
  • Build integrated customer acquisition campaigns with a focus on increasing financial confidence among priority customer segments; leveraging TD experts and compelling narratives to help breakthrough in earned and social media and drive brand leadership.
  • Lead proactive acquisition and awareness campaigns supporting key business objectives and delivering results.
  • Draw on deep media relations and issues management experience to mitigate reputational risk, providing strategic communications advice to business partners, senior leaders and control partners. Collaborate with the teams above to advocate for customercentric resolutions to media issues, wherever possible.
  • Own the development of statements, key messages and summaries, ensuring customerfacing teams across TD are prepared to respond to issues impacting TD. Act as media spokesperson when required.
  • Elevate brand communications and deliver storytelling that resonates with customers, communities and colleagues and supports business objectives in priority regional markets.
  • Work closely with our external PR agency and colleagues within Marketing to execute communication tactics that support and promote our brand positioning.
  • Leverage social channels efficiently and effectively for digital storytelling and the amplification of earned media across the TD Newsroom and other assets.
  • Develop and execute internal communications tactics that celebrate our colleagues and their achievements, helping to build awareness of initiatives supporting Inclusion and Diversity across the Personal Bank.
  • Keep a pulse on trends and proactive opportunities where TD could own the space/be the voice or contribute to thought leadership.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with key journalists.

Job Requirements

  • Trackrecord of conceiving and delivering creative and compelling PR, marketing communications campaigns and digital storytelling.
  • Skilled communicator with strong media relations and issues management background and demonstrated experience managing complex corporate issues.
  • Expertise in providing reputational counsel and issues management and developing customercentric corporate positioning in media messaging.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in an integrated capacity alongside business leaders, marketing and social media teams, publishing and creative design teams, vendors as well as control functions (legal, compliance, privacy etc.).
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills to create materials that make an impact, including employee communications, digital content, speeches and presentations, news stories, media pitches and releases.
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative and engaging communications plans to effectively drive business objectives.
  • Proactive, organized, and industrious.
  • Experience building and managing multilingual and multicultural PR campaigns.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fastpaced environment under tight deadlines; selfstarter highly motivated to deliver results and ability to work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES, ACCREDITATION:


  • 7 years+ communications experience in corporate or consulting environment
  • Experience in financial services or large regulated/publiclytraded company an asset
  • Experience working with senior leaders
  • Excellent judgment in dealing with sensitive issues and providing counsel to senior executives
  • Able to manage, budget, projects, results reporting, analysis and vendor relationships
  • Experience leading digital and visual campaigns, especially storytelling through video
  • Undergraduate degree or PR/marketing/corporate communications certification, designations, or equivalent required
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an assetML2
