Specific Accountabilities:


  • Technical Duties
a)Acts as a principal investigator and lead the day to day activities of the research projects;
b)Conduct automation projects and work with the Information Technology and Communications Research Centre (ITCRC) at connecting automation and IT
c)Conduct advanced programming of control and automation systems and work with ITCRC to connect components to internet based services.
d)Conduct and carry out with research activities including literature review, data analysis, and experimentation in collaboration with researchers and industry partners in the area of instrumentation and control
e)Carry out with engineering of various research projects with respect to instrumentation
f)Carry out design, installation and implementation of control systems and methods for various research projects
g)Debug research control and instrumentation systems
h)Troubleshooting of research project
i)Oversees construction of control and instrumentation systems including full structural, mechanical and instrumentation construction for all projects.
j)Ensure that the projects comply with health and safety regulations
k)Ensure that quality standards are maintained
l)Provide consultancy support to partners, industry representatives for development of new projects
m)Help to prepare technical reports and presentation for research partners
n)Work with supervisor to design and develop work plans and coordinate time lines for project completion
o)Attend meetings with research teams and industry partners to update activities
p)Help the supervisor with coordination of research activities

Administration Duties
b)Work with the supervisor and Applied Research and Innovation Office to prepare purchase orders
c)Liaising with research partners, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities for purchasing as well as executing required tasks
d)Work with supervisor and Applied Research and Innovation Office for project management within cost and time constrained environments.
e)Work with Supervisor to develop task listfor research students
f)Support the Research Lead in collaboration with Applied Research Outreach Coordinator to prepare content for promotional literature such as website content, brochures or flyers and coordinates printing and distribution
g)Help with tours to future partners, major contributors and guests


About the Position:


This is a full-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Research and Innovation Operations Manager working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $36.55.


The incumbent's technical responsibilities include design, installation, implementation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, operation, networking, analysis and troubleshooting of instrumentation, and electrical processes, measurement devices, various distributed control systems/PLC's for the assigned research projects.

The focus will be on moving applied research into the 4thindustrial revolution trough integration with information technology and automation. The incumbent will be responsible for advancing the automation goals of the college.


The incumbent will also be responsible for assigning tasks to the technicians and providing guidance and direction, developing purchasing documents, helping with research outreach in collaboration with Research Lead and Applied Research and Innovation Office.


Qualifications:


  • Minimum threeyear Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with Visual basic interface programming
  • Computer Network & Troubleshooting for isolated systems
  • Working knowledge of a selection of the following systems: Allen Bradley PLC, Triconex PLC, Honeywell Experion, SMAR Fieldbus, Emerson Delta V system
  • Welldeveloped anal
