JOB SUMMARY


The Manager, Government Relations (GR) is responsible for ensuring that the Rick Hansen Foundation's (RHF) relationships with all levels of government are cultivated, sustained and deepened.


This position provides support to the CEO with ensuring RHF's revenue strategies and strategic funding priorities are continually advanced in alignment with Resource Development (RD)strategy and the Foundation strategy.


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS


Reporting to the CEO, the Manager, GR supports interactions with all senior government officials across all levels of government (Federal, Provincial, Municipal, and Indigenous) including Ministers, Deputy and Assistant Deputy Ministers, Senior Directors and elected officials including cabinet Ministers, MP's, MLA's/MPP's, Mayors and Councillors, Chief Administrative Officers of Crown Corporations and other relevant agencies.


This position also works with the RD, Marketing & Communications, Program Leaders, Finance, and other colleagues and consultants as needed.

The Manager, GR will have management responsibilities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**- Strategy_

  • Works closely with and supports the CEO, VP Strategy, and external Government Relations Advisors to develop strategy and a plan to effectively engage government leaders and decision makers to achieve support for Resource Development (RD) and RHF priorities; and
  • Provides ongoing support on political and government engagement and is available to provide immediate and informed actions related to all matters impacting the relationship between RHF and its various government partners.
  • Government Relations Management_
  • In conjunction with the CEO, identifies, initiates, builds and sustains productive relationships with government leaders / decision makers;
  • Supports the communication of clear messages with all senior government officials across all levels of Government, Chief Administrative Officers of Crown Corporations and other agencies;
  • Manages communication and interacts with relevant government ministries, partners, coworkers, and staff with the purpose of becoming a trusted policy advisor to the government in the Foundation's areas of interest and expertise; and
  • Interacts with consultants to determine government engagement and lobbying activities.
  • Public Affairs Management_
  • Ensures RHF is supplied with informed intelligence regarding the ongoing activities of the various governments in policy areas that have impact on the Foundation and its partners;
  • Conducts analytical and research work and provides guidance on public policy and government relations issues and programs having an impact on RHF; and
  • Identifies, analyzes, advises and provides guidance on legislative, regulatory, public policy and advocacy developments, initiatives and trends that may/does have an impact on the Foundation and/or other relevant parties.
  • General Responsibilities_
  • Manages staff;
  • Prepares and monitors GR budget and forecasts, in conjunction with the CEO;
  • Reviews RHF programs and initiatives and defines how they align with government priorities, programs and initiatives;
  • Ensures all government leader and government communications and reporting, including all agreement related obligations, are conducted in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Ensures that in the process of advancing RHF goals, that no significant clusters of government opposition emerge and that any potential barriers are identified quickly;
  • Supports the design and content of key government engagement collateral;
  • Develops and prepares presentations, meeting notes, briefing notes, and suppo
