    The Department of Advanced Education (AE) collaborates with partners to ensure Nova Scotia has a post-secondary education system:

    AE focuses on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility as the foundation for Nova Scotia's post-secondary system.

    With approximately 70 employees, AE oversees universities, the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), private career colleges, and language schools. Responsibilities include managing student loan programs for financial assistance.

    About Our Opportunity

    The Programs and Accountability Branch leads health education initiatives in collaboration with government departments and post-secondary institutions.

    As the Junior Business/Policy Analyst student, you'll gain practical experience, training, and mentorship. This role offers a chance to kickstart your career and understand the provincial government and education sector.

    If you're keen on project management, problem-solving, research, and facilitating discussions, this opportunity is ideal. Critical thinking, communication, and prioritization skills are key.

    You'll work with various departments on projects, enhancing your skills.

    Primary Accountabilities

    • Collaborate with experts and external partners
    • Address information gaps and opportunities
    • Support projects and initiatives
    • Conduct policy research and analysis
    • Analyze data and statistics
    • Develop presentation material
    • Attend key partner meetings
    • Present findings in reports and presentations

    The role includes other tasks as needed.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Current student returning to school, especially in business/administration programs. Proficiency in office software, critical thinking, and communication skills are required.

    • Experience in project management and policy analysis
    • Effective communication skills
    • Organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
    • Attention to detail and ability to solve complex problems

    Assessment methods may include examinations, interviews, and reference checks.

    Working Conditions

    • Normal work week: 35 hours, 7 hours/day
    • Comfortable office environment
    • Requires reading, interpreting, typing, and computer work
    • Pressure with deadlines may occur
    • Occasional visits to other government offices

    Additional Information

    This opportunity starts around June 17, 2024, and ends on August 31, 2024.
