Summer Student Term Positions - Halifax and Bedford Campus

Join the Northwood team this summer
We are looking for dynamic individuals to be a part of our team at the Halifax and Bedford Campuses for the following positions:


  • Mental Health Support Workers:
-
Social Worker Intern
  • Bedford Campus

All Positions Details:

Length of the term: 8 weeks - Part time positions

Number of hours: 70 hours bi-weekly (Varied Shifts - Days and Evenings)


Salary:
$16.30 per hour


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Grade 11 or higher
  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act(1)., and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Must have interest in working in Long Term Care

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT WORKER POSITIONS

  • Start Date: June 30, 2023_
  • Minimum oneyear experience working in a communitybased environment or equivalent experience is required
  • Mental Health experience considered an asset. Gardening knowledge.

Responsibilities:


  • To provide hands on assistance with resident treatment programs. Help assist residents attending our outdoor gardens.




SOCIAL WORKER INTERN:
BEDFORD CAMPUS


  • Start Date: June 19, 2023_
  • Under the mentorship of the Social Worker, the Social Work Intern will:
  • Assists with the admission process for new applicants (e.g., communicates with residents and/or family, external stakeholders involved with the admission process and orientates residents to LTC)
  • Assists with bed utilization processes (occupying vacancies and coordinating internal transfers) and inputs data in the Pathways platform for bed utilization.
  • Provides one to one support to resident and/or families (supports and understands needs of people in transition).
  • Collaborates with other professionals to evaluate patients' mental health, medical or physical status and to assess clients' needs
  • Serves as a resource for residents and their families advocating with internal team members and community contacts
  • Provides conflict resolution and counsels clients/residents in conflict
  • Maintains appropriate documentation on electronic medical record
  • Completes administrative duties as required
