What can I expect to do in this role?:

  • Conduct cleaning of laboratory areas and other assigned areas in the building
  • Dusting and polishing furniture, woodwork and brass work
  • Cleaning glass partitions and window sills and dry mopping floors
  • Cleaning/damp wiping file cabinets, metal legs of chairs, cloth dividers and telephones, etc.
  • Cleaning specialized biohazardous and/or DNAprotected laboratory areas
  • Replacing garbage liners and taking garbage to designated area for pickup
  • Cleaning up any area in special circumstances; i.e. accidents resulting from sickness as per health and safety procedures
  • Washroom floors, cleaning mirrors, fixtures and walls. using cleaning solutions deodorizers and disinfectants
  • Replenishing supplies of soap. paper, towels, linen towels, etc., in washroom dispensers
  • Other duties as assigned

How do I qualify?:


Specialized Knowledge and Experience:


  • You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with industrial cleaning methods/processes (i.e. biohazardous cleaning, infection control, etc.)
  • You have experience in the safe and proper operation of industrial cleaning equipment and machines as well as other cleaning tools, materials, and products
  • You have knowledge of health and safety (including WHMIS and OHSA) for safe handling of chemical solutions used for cleaning
  • You can understand and follow organizational policies and protocols (such as following cleaning practices within a LEED certified building and specific cleaning protocols within a forensics laboratory)

Skills:


  • You have communication skills in order to work with staff, report issues, and maintain logs/reports
  • You have problemsolving and organizational skills in order to determine the appropriate method and materials to use for various cleaning tasks, balance daily priorities, and identify shortages in supplies
