The Advancement and Alumni Relations office is responsible for fundraising and alumni engagement effort for the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education, which includes the Varsity Blues intercollegiate sports programs.

The advancement staff work to solicit financial contributions to support the Faculty and its academic and co-curricular priorities.

Through a range of programs, events and special initiatives, we raise awareness among current and prospective donors, alumni, volunteers and friends regarding the importance of investing in the Faculty and our students.

Our office engages in cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with all stakeholders and building on the positive associations our alumni have with the University.


Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Development Officer will be responsible for managing the Annual & Leadership Giving Program, including a portfolio of prospective and current LAG donors.

The incumbent will drive strategy to promote philanthropy across all Advancement programs and activities by leveraging engagement opportunities to optimize outreach and revenue generation.

Working with colleagues in Advancement and across the Faculty, the Development Officer will have direct involvement in individual cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, as wellas collective efforts to raise funds in support of key priorities (i.e. Class Giving, Varsity Blues Fundraising, etc.)


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Evaluating a prospective donor's giving capacity and readiness to give
  • Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
  • Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Drafting written materials for fundraising activities
  • Identifying prospective donors and aligning them to key priorities
  • Analyzing administrative processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and recent and related experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience as an advancement professional within leadership, annual, major, and/or planned givingfundraising environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building and strengthening relationships with key donor contacts.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, coordinating and implementing tailored advancement programs.
  • Experience conducting developmentrelated research to identify donor prospects and creating tailored fundraising packages.
  • Experience developing components of shortand longterm donor stewardship strategies.
  • Experience developing events and programming to engage donors, prospects, and alumni.
  • Experience with fundraising database ARBOR or related databases; experience maintaining databases, and preparing reports from multiple data sources.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office suite, database software, and web content management systems.
  • Excellent and proven (oral and written) communication skills with the ability to draft, proofread and edit a range of written material.
  • Demonstrated initiative, tact, diplomacy, attention to detail, and creativity.
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and professional presence necessary to successfully interact with donors, alumni, senior volunteers and stakeholders.

  • Experience in a postsecondary environment.
  • Knowledge of the University of Toronto's rules, guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education
