Position Summary:


The Academic Chair leads and inspires the School of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Technology (SEMET) within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology (FASET).

Reporting to the Dean, FASET provide dynamic academic leadership across all aspects of the school within the school while also developing and executing strategic initiatives, aligned with Seneca's and FASET's strategic goals.

As a passionate advocate for program quality and student success, the incumbent champions and contributes to program development, financial management, innovation, research, project leadership, student support, and impactful college-wide initiatives.

They lead their team in forging a strong School identity, cultivating a positive reputation, and upholding shared educational objectives.

Additionally, they oversee program compliance and accreditation, collaborating closely with various college divisions and partners to drive change strategies and meet priorities effectively.


Responsibilities:


Academic Leadership in Program and Strategic Planning

  • Spearhead the development of highquality, studentcentered programs with a strong focus on industry relevance.
  • Forge close collaborations with college departments and external partners to drive operational and strategic impact.
  • Establish and uphold rigorous standards by fostering collaboration among staff, faculty, and peers, aligning strategic plans with the College's overarching vision.
  • Supervise the development of curriculum to ensure seamless planning and delivery.
  • Promote effective communication within the School/Department, encouraging active participation in decisionmaking while championing College initiatives. Foster an inclusive work and learning environment that embraces diversity.
  • Incorporate diverse experiences, beliefs, and traditions into the curriculum, student life, and employment practices in line with Seneca's commitment to diversity.
  • Elevate student success, faculty development, and program effectiveness.
  • Continuously assess and adapt courses/programs to meet market trends, technological advancements, and student demands.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with industry and government stakeholders.
  • Innovate in the realm of strategic human resource management to cultivate effective teams.
  • Lead recruitment, development, and performance management of staff and faculty.
  • Provide comprehensive support to faculty and staff in pursuit of operational goals.
  • Foster growth strategies to meet the evolving needs of dynamic programs.
  • Organize and allocate faculty and staff workloads in accordance with established policies.
  • Optimize resource allocation through datadriven forecasting.
  • Collaborate on integrated planning and budgeting with Dean and fellow Chair colleagues.

Student Success and Related Supports

  • Align decisions with an unwavering commitment to student success and achievement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving academic disputes that have not been resolved at lower levels, involving faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with Student Conduct and/or Human Resources to mediate conflicts between faculty/staff and students.
  • Assist students facing health or related challenges that impact their learning and success.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and alumni.

Research, Innovation and College-Wide Requirements

  • Cultivate an environment conducive to applied research within the school, actively encouraging and supporting faculty and student involvement in applied research activities.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in teaching and learning, emerging educational technologies, and developments in the program field(s) of study.
  • Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety requirements, maintaining rigorous departmental compliance with safety protocols.
  • Fulfill any additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Education

  • Completed master's degree in a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P. Eng) required, completed, or in progress.

Experience

  • Nine (9) years of postsecondary teaching experience, preferably within a discipline closely related to the school's focus.
  • Demonstrate progressive senior leadership experience across diverse functions within a large and multifaceted organization.
