Job Summary


Under the direction of the Manager, ATS Learning Delivery, the Operational Training Specialist is accountable for planning, implementing and/or supporting all simulation components of the FIR's training programs.

Work involves the support of Voice Recognition simulation delivery as well as simulation delivery via pseudo pilot positions.

The OTS also provides national leadership as a working simulation specialist on varied projects related to new and /or changes to the simulation systems and tools.

  • National Bid Program - Open to qualified OTS, ATOS, OTS Supervisors, and ATOS Unit Operations Specialists
  • Seniority Bid - Open to qualified employees at an ATT-4 level or lower
  • Competitive Process - Open to all eligible employees at the Winnipeg ACC

Key Accountabilities:

  • In support of the training requirements of the FIR, develops, maintains, executes, and enhances simulation exercises, databases and documentation, ensuring standardization and conformance to policies, standards and criteria.
  • Supports the delivery of simulation training activities.
  • Leads FIR or national multidisciplinary project implementation teams.
  • Works with the Manager, ATS Learning Delivery and other stakeholders to identify the effectiveness of simulation delivery and opportunities for improvements. Determines simulation impacts in such areas as procedures, systems, technology, and other quality control systems.
  • Identifies and implements changes to regionspecific courseware and simulation as a result of changes to operational directives, airspace structure, new or updated technology, and/or changes to Operational Training objectives.
  • Coordinates, prepares, distributes, and supports all data files required by simulators in use at the local training unit.
  • Troubleshoots simulation tools issues and follows up with higher level support as necessary.
  • Trains stakeholders on the operation of simulation tools and equipment.
Education/Occupational Certification

  • Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience

  • Operating knowledge of all equipment gained through successful completion of formal training courses and experience.
Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the Air Traffic Services system including procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and data file management practices for the following: Windows, Linux and Unix, as well as networking protocols.
  • Knowledge of operating characteristics of all operational systems and input/output devices.
  • Current knowledge of air traffic control, flight information centre, and flight service station policies, procedures, publications, airmanship and aircraft performance.
  • Knowledge of the NAV CANADA organization, roles and responsibilities including a thorough knowledge of ATC Training.

Working Conditions

  • Work schedule is Monday to Friday.
  • Some evening shifts may be required based on operational requirements.
  • Requirement for extended periods of high degrees of visual and auditory concentration demands as well as extended periods in seated or standing positions.
  • Travel may be required.
