  • The Production Supervisor role oversees all aspects of production for our Kitchener facility. As a key player on the management team, this role supervises our production workers, processes and ensures both worker and food safety.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & REPORTS:


  • Reporting directly to the Production Manager this role oversees production employees.
As well, this role interacts with supporting functions including:
Scheduler, Maintenance Supervisor, Shipping Supervisor, Payroll, HR and Quality Assurance Technicians


RESPONSIBILITIES:


As Production Supervisor this role ensures the production schedule is completed on time, on budget and with the utmost attention to food safety and to the safety of our employees.

In addition, this role will play a crucial part in redesigning and revising our current processes.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Production

  • Adhere to daily production schedule, ensuring line efficiency is achieved and required output is met
  • Manage completion of work orders in accordance with production schedule
  • Review work orders for the shift, assemble recipes and raw ingredients and assign priorities
  • Monitor flow of production and revise priorities as necessary
  • Check completed batches to ensure quality standards are met. Take corrective action if necessary
  • Minimize waste and maximize production efficiency
  • Responsible for food quality and safety, promoting the SQF program and ensuring adherence to its requirements
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, standard operating procedures, and health and safety policies
  • Manage labour costs, controlling regular and overtime hours
  • Coordinate with other supervisors and reassign workers as necessary to meet priorities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operations
  • Special projects and assignments as per business needs
Employee Supervision and Training

  • Oversee employee base (fulltime and temporary) including new hire orientation and training
  • Conduct meetings at start of shift, communicating any issues of concern, reviewing existing procedures, and introducing any new procedures, as necessary
  • Conduct monthly safety talks in accordance with schedule of topics provided by JHSC
  • Direct and supervise employee activities, setting priorities for the shift
  • Ensure that documentation (e.g. CCP check sheets) is completed in a timely and accurate manner, as required
  • Ensure that employees are working safely, following safe work practices and wearing required PPE
  • Manage employee attendance and performance, ensuring that employees are working productively and efficiently and following established GMPs and SOPs
  • Report absent employees
  • Be a mentor and provide instruction, training, correction, positive feedback or discipline as required to the team leads as well as front line staff
Administrative Responsibilities

  • Confirm daily attendance and ensure completion of emergency evacuation sheet
  • Review timecards for temporary and fulltime staff and make corrections as required
  • Complete weekly time sheets for temporary workers, summarizing hours worked, and submit to Plant Manager for approval
  • Manage vacation schedule and arrange for temporary assistance to cover vacation periods when necessary
  • Conduct shift meetings to review existing procedure or introduce new procedure, as necessary
  • Maintain inventory of personal protective equipment required for department employees and reorder as necessary

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:


  • Related work experience: Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing
  • Required Skills: negotiation, persuasion, supervisory, analytical thinking, judgment and decision making, reading comprehension, management of material resources and project management

  • Multi-Tasking: Strong ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate priorities. Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and effectively deal with ambiguous situations
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and Health and Safety regulations
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
