    Our expectations:

    The student will be working at P&WC's Altitude Test Facility (ATF) located at the National Research Center (NRC) campus in Ottawa. The ATF is a state of art test facility that allows aircraft engine manufacturers to test turboprop, turboshaft and APU engines at the correct environmental conditions of temperature, pressure, humidity and inlet dynamic pressure corresponding to target altitude and aircraft forward speed.

    The student will be working with the Test Coordinator on the preparation phase of various test campaigns including an icing test. Related activities include the design and development of test procedures, test sections, instrumentation, fuel/oil systems, control systems, accessories, and special test components. The student will produce Test Instructions, Daily Status updates and write Test Reports in conjunction with their oversight of daily test activities.

    What your day to day will look like:

  • Having access to ATF facility will allow student to gain knowledge in engine testing and behavior at various atmospheric conditions.
  • The student will be supported by a team of engineers and technicians which would allow the student to gain experience in altitude engine testing.
  • The student will have to adapt to plan/priority changes and unplanned issues will require troubleshooting and investigation.
  • What you need to be successful:

    Must haves:

  • Be eligible to work in Canada
  • Be enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internship
  • Be able to work on-site in the province where you are hired if applicable
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken/written). French is an asset
  • Assets:

  • Any past project/internship experience related with thermodynamics, fluid mechanics or gas turbine theory.
  • Adaptable, self-motivated with good technical aptitude
  • Must be able to work effectively in fast-paced work environment.

    L'étudiant(e) travaillera à l'installation d'essai d'altitude (ATF) de P&WC située sur le campus du Centre national de recherche (CNRC) à Ottawa. L'ATF est une installation d'essai de pointe qui permet aux constructeurs de moteurs d'avions de tester les turbopropulseurs, les turbomoteurs et les moteurs APU dans les conditions environnementales représentatives de température, de pression, d'humidité et de pression dynamique d'admission correspondant à l'altitude cible et à la vitesse de l'avion.

    L'étudiant travaillera avec le coordonnateur des tests sur la préparation de diverses campagnes de tests, dont un test de givrage. Les activités connexes comprennent la conception et le développement de procédures de test, de sections de test, d'instrumentation, de systèmes carburant/huile, de systèmes de contrôle, d'accessoires et de composants de test spéciaux. L'étudiant produira des instructions de test, des mises à jour quotidiennes et rédigera des rapports de test en plus de supporter les activités de test quotidiennes.

  • Avoir accès aux installations permettra à l'étudiant(e) d'acquérir des connaissances sur les essais et le comportement des moteurs dans diverses conditions atmosphériques.
  • L'étudiant sera épaulé par une équipe d'ingénieurs et de techniciens qui lui permettra d'acquérir de l'expérience dans les essais de moteurs en altitude.
  • L'étudiant devra s'adapter aux changements de plan/priorité et les imprévus nécessiteront des plans d'action et des solutions.
