Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Fabrication Supervisor, while demonstrating a commitment to quality, efficiency and accuracy, the CNC Brake Operator is responsible for the bending and shaping of production parts from various metal materials.

Operators must read blueprint/drawings to create parts and select correct dies for each task.

Operators will ensure control speed and feed and bend areas to ensure desired product outcome according to specifications and extremely tight tolerances.


Duties and Responsibilities

Determines Job Requirements:

  • Receives and reviews shop orders, drawings, prints and materials lists.
  • Identifies material requirements.
  • Determines sequence of operations and setup required.

Performs Set-ups:

  • Identifies and selects dies and other fixtures, as required.
  • Selects and inspects raw materials, necessary to complete job requirements.
  • Performs necessary setup of tooling and equipment for own work and other operators, if requested.
  • Verifies that equipment is serviceable and no safety problems exist prior to operation.

Performs Programming and/or Program Verification:

  • Performs NC programming on equipment.
  • Performs NC or CNC program tryout. Verifies that program performs adequately.
  • Identifies problems and debugs or corrects deficiencies.
  • Requests assistance whenever necessary.

Performs First Article Build and Verifies Set-ups:

  • Fabricates first article.
  • Checks and inspects first piece.
  • Verifies that first article conforms to product specifications.
  • Identifies and investigates discrepancies.
  • Determines and takes necessary action to remedy problem.
  • Submits first articles for QC inspection as required.

Produces Required Parts or Components:

  • Produces required quantity of parts according to shop order and product specifications.
  • Operates and tends equipment during production as required.
  • Monitors production cycle.
  • Identifies and acts on any malfunctions or problems.

Maintains Monitoring and Measurement Equipment (IMTE):

  • Uses, cleans and safeguards monitoring and measurement equipment (IMTE) necessary to accomplish essential results.
  • Identifies and reports deficiencies.
  • Submits IMTE for inspection, calibration and maintenance according to established procedures and schedules, and as required, ensuring continued accuracy.

Maintains Equipment/Machinery:

  • Cleans and maintains machine, tooling, and parts as per Champ Preventative Maintenance schedule to ensure equipment is in optimal production condition and prevent equipment breakdown.
  • Inspects cutting tools for sharpness and usability.
  • Updates daily/monthly equipment preventative maintenance logs for machinery.

Maintains Records:

  • Scans products as they are received, completed and sent to the next operation as per shop procedure. Completes employee time log tag.
Knowledgeable of Workplace Health and Safety and Fire Plan:

  • Is familiar with the responsibilities of employees according to Workplace Health and Safety Legislation
  • Maintains a safe work environment and complies with safe work procedures.
  • Reports any unsafe working conditions

Organizes, Sequences and Checks Work:

  • Organizes, sequences and checks the work of machine operator and the fabrication support and assists them in problem solving
  • Identifies and reports any concerns to the fabrication supervisor, lead hand, shift supervisor,

Performs other Related Duties:

  • Performs other related functions as directed.

Equipment Operated

  • CNC/NC machinery
  • Band saws, Laser, Punch and Brake
  • Noncomputer controlled saws, drills and punches.
  • Grinders, sanders
  • IMTE
  • Job Boss scanning technology.
  • Various hand and power tools.

Working Relationships

  • Cooperates with and coordinates work activities with fellow employees.
  • Identifies and reports defects and nonconformance to fabrication supervisor, leadhand, shift supervisor
  • Discusses productivity and quality issues with fabrication supervisor, leadhand, shift supervisor

Qualifications

  • Manitoba Grade 10 required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English required.
  • Postsecondary certification/diploma in Manufacturing Machine Operation preferred
  • Proficient in reading drawings and following instructions
  • Recent relevant experience in Metal fabrication preferred.
  • Ability to operate Fork lift /or experience
  • Physically fit, considerable standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50lbs
