The strategic sourcing manager will lead the development of category strategies within the Canadian business and Corporate spend categories (including, but not limited to, group insurance and operations services, travel management, consulting, human resources, marketing, communications, real estate and finance services).

Manages the execution of the strategic sourcing process. Assists with meeting defined savings and cost reduction targets within the category. Focuses on the continuous improvement of various procurement processes. Researches and develops new supply sources.

As required monitors the cost, schedule and scope aspects of assigned subcontracts to assure best quantity and quality at best value.


What you will do?

  • Lead and manage the sourcing process for primarily high visibility, high risk, high spend initiatives.
  • Lead project teams through the sourcing process including but not limited to the design and development of RFXs, engagement strategies and contract negotiations through to contract execution.
  • Assess, define and resolve procurement issues including contractual terms and conditions and escalations by internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Perform market analysis and spend analysis leveraging all available data sources accounting, purchasing, payment systems, suppliers, market trends etc. to provide insight into opportunities for savings and efficiencies.
  • Ensure all related governance processes/policies are adhered to and completed prior to final approval to ensure the acquisition is done in the best interest of the company (legal, technical, financial, regulatory compliance).
  • Create strategy documents and present for sourcing opportunities.

What you need to succeed?

  • Extensive sourcing and category management experience, including experience leading sourcing initiatives and projects, identifying savings opportunities and driving change; contract review and understanding of typical contract terms is a MUST.
  • 5+ years Corporate and/or IT sourcing experience.
  • Experience in sourcing and contracting for Business services and Corporate spend categories (i.e. operations, product development, travel management, consulting, human resources, marketing, communications, real estate and finance services) and/or IT (i.e. Hardware, software, telecom, SaaS, IT professional services, etc.).
  • Proven sourcing leadership skills and ability to work with internal stakeholders to drive the process.
  • Expertise in Sourcing strategies (i.e. RFX, PricetoPlay, etc.) and the development of negotiation strategies.

Preferred skills:


  • Effective client relationship management skills are critical in this role.
  • Requires comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Financial Analysis skills, included advanced Excel skills.
  • Confidence in ability to lead negotiations to conclusion.
  • Proven ability to work with internal legal counsel and other stakeholders such as security and compliance.
  • Role will require both independent contribution as well as team involvement.
  • Demonstrates a drive for results and sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communicator both written and oral communication.
  • Must have experience creating project plans, managing to plans, communicating effectively and engaging necessary stakeholders in projects as required.
  • Makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, common sense wisdom, experience and good judgment.

Assets:


  • Familiarity with purchasing systems, eProcurement and eSourcing systems.
  • Familiarity with third party risk for Financial Service Institutions.
  • Supply chain and/or procurement certification.
