Current Rate of Pay:
Min $41.66- Max $52.07


Current Shifts:
Days, Evenings, Weekends-12 hour shifts


Position Summary:


The Patient Care Resource Coordinator (PCRC) assumes an informal leadership role within the organization demonstrating expertise in optimizing hospital resources to improve patient flow which helps to provide a quality patient care experience.

The PCRC is responsible for coordinating the flow of patients as well as the resources to support that flow.

The PCRC will make decisions based on the day to day needs of the organization taking into consideration the resources available to individual units/programs to optimize patient access, patient and staff safety.

The PCRC assesses the barriers, to flow and creates strategies to meet the patient care needs in collaboration with key stakeholders both internally and externally.


Although the position does not have direct reports or budget assigned, the PCRC assumes the managerial responsibility for Patient Care Services on evenings and weekends.

The PCRC has the authority to make general managerial and patient care decisions normally made on days by Unit Managers/Directors.


As a powerful change agent, the PCRC integrates best practices using process redesign expertise (systems thinking; value stream mapping, PDSA (plan, do, study, act), waste reduction, workplace reorganization, Lean principles, etc.).

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:


  • Certificate of registration as a Regulated Health Professional in the Province of Ontario
  • BScN or an undergraduate degree in a healthrelated field
  • Minimum 3 years Acute care experience
  • 35 years leadership experience preferred
  • Hospital wide cohesive patient flow perspective, balancing the needs of all inpatient services and programs
  • Passion for enhancing safety and the patient experience
  • Understanding of current bed management processes and the continuum of care, including infection control, discharge planning and ALC processes and issues
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and ability to analyze and effectively communicate complex data
  • Proven ability to utilize data to analyze, monitor and maintain process improvements and patient flow
  • Proven problem solving, critical thinking skills, and negotiation skills in order to impact patient flow
  • Conflict resolution skills essential
  • Demonstrated understanding of resource allocation in hospitals including human resources
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders, while working as a liaison, coach, and mentor
  • Creative and flexible leadership style
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a selfdirected manner, as well as collaboratively within a team in a fastpaced and everchanging environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
