Position Overview


The position plays a key role in Canstar's Accounting team and works with the Controller to oversee, improve and implement policies and procedures to effectively manage the company's collection activities.

The Accounts Receivable Supervisor is responsible for leading a small team of Accounts Receivable clerks, to ensure efficient, timely and accurate collections of accounts while being accountable for the attainment of departmental goals and objectives.

The role is best suited to someone who enjoys problem solving, is highly organized and thrives with high volume.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of a small team performing accounting and clerical duties
  • Collaborates with the Senior Management team and Project Managers to address issues in ensuring timely collections
  • Responsible for planning and organizing AR fullcycle accounting operations and automation of AR processes and accounting systems
  • Provides staff training, scheduling, and work assignment for staff assigned to the AR team
  • Ensures compliance with company billing and collection policies
  • Performs annual staff performance management and reviews Performance Development plans with AR staff
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures that facilitate the consistent and efficient collection of accounts receivables and the minimization of risk
  • Follow ups, collects, and allocates daily payment, including cheques, EFT, wires, and Etransfers, credit cards
  • Collects and reports on activities as per established accounting guidelines.
  • Coordinate with collection services and reconcile customer accounts
  • Providing customer invoice and statements upon request, and establishing a monthly schedule sending to a predetermined list of clients/accounts
  • Liaises with clients to investigate and resolve client queries
  • Ensure adjustments to accounts are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Reviews reports biweekly per assigned team and works with team to contact clients/accounts for outstanding invoices
  • Monitors customer account details for non payments, delayed payments and other irregularities and informs the Controller as required
  • Maintains accurate accounts receivable customer files

  • Ensure that self and others adhere to Canstar's health and safety practices and procedures
  • Ensure good housekeeping is kept to perform work safely and efficiently
  • Understand safety policies and protocols
  • Ensure that self and others on site are wearing all required PPE, when required

A personable and well-organized individual who pays attention to detail and has excellent data entry skills. Someone who has a professional manner and is able to interact with employers and vendors daily. Experienced in working in a fast
- paced environment and complies with the GAAP accounting regulation.

Other important attributes of a future Canstar Accounts Payable Clerk are:


  • Working knowledge of sound accounting practices with respect to the integrity of AR processes and record keeping
  • Experience in the construction or restorations industry is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong understanding of Accounts Receivable workflows.
  • Experience working with Dynamics/NAV is considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel including vlookup and pivot tables)
  • Strong supervisory skills along with ability to motivate staff
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with ability to adjust and respond professionally to changing priorities and adhoc issues
  • Proven ability to multitask, handle high volumes, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and problem solve as well as communicate and followup in a professional manner
  • A positive demeanour and team player, who is willing to go the extra mile
