Regional Political Communications Officer

Our client is looking to fill the role of Regional Political Communications Officer for their northern offices located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

This role will entail providing political and communications advice, assistance and support to the Regional Executive Vice President and the Regional Council.

Aside from the experience required to be effective in this role, the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and passionate about regional economic, social, political and labour issues.

This person will be agile with the ability to write content that will be communicated both internally and externally to various regional, political and social justice organizations and groups as needed.

Report to and support the REVP and the Regional Council with lobbying to advance positions on national and regional topics, including the development of lobbying tools and craft materials for political action and campaigns
Provide political briefings and speaking support, conduct research, provide analysis, advice and prepare reports on regional economic, social political and labour issues and their importance
Prepare public statements and press releases for media, and manage all social media and online platforms
Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field

Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
Knowledge of regional union and social issues
Demonstrated commitment to regional union principles and social justice
Ability to conceptualize, design and proof a variety of communication materials
Previous work with non-governmental organizations or government communications and union speakers
Previous work with social justice programs, law, unions and media relations
Ability to be agile with writing for different audiences
Exceptional communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills
Flexible and adaptable in nature, able to shift priorities at any given time and manage multiple conflicting priorities
Relocation allowance
Full-time hours
