Job Summary

  • As the first universitybased common law school in the nation, the Schulich School of Law offers a unique and enlightened approach to legal education. The faculty of law has a diverse curriculum, leading specializations, and internationally recognized faculty. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Web & Digital Media Specialist plays a crucial role within Schulich Law's Communications and Marketing team, serving as the web expert. The Specialist collaborates across the entire law school, with Institutes and research groups, and individual faculty, staff and students to enhance Schulich Law's web profile and presence. The Specialist is responsible for developing original content and suggesting creative ways to attract, engage, and inform stakeholders on the website.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for strategic leadership, initiative and oversight of Schulich Law's web and digital media content, including undergraduate and graduate programs and specializations, student services, admissions, alumni relations and advancement, our three institutes, two legal clinics, the Indigenous Blacks and Mi'kmaw Initiative, and research labs.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in working with the University's Web Content Management System to manage Schulich Law's faculty website, and to ensure the website meets best practices for user experience, information architecture, and search engine optimization.
  • Develop new content for the web, including writing copy and sourcing images and graphics.
  • Manage Schulich Law's web content migration from Adobe Experience Manager Classic to Touch UI, including working with Schulich Law stakeholders to audit, redevelop and rewrite web content, with guidance from Dalhousie's Communications, Marketing and Creative Services Team.
  • Make recommendations to Schulich Law's web contributors (approximately 16 staff across the faculty) and unit leaders on how to best use the website to advance strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to write and develop content for a variety of platforms.

Note
Must be available for after hour events on occasion.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field preferred e.g. Public Relations, Marketing or Communications, Web Content Development and Strategy, plus three years' related experience (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
  • High level of expertise using Content Management Systems.
  • Experience in writing for the web and regular website maintenance.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and knowledge of CSS and HTML.
  • Attention to detail, ability to learn quickly, and the capacity to solve problems efficiently.
  • Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills, for diverse audiences using an array of formats (web, mobile, formal reports, etc.).
