    Thank you for considering volunteering your time at the Toronto Marathon on behalf of SickKids Foundation

    The Toronto Marathon is just around the corner, and SickKids Foundation is thrilled to invite you to be a part of our Volunteer Team

    On Sunday, May 5th, we'll be hosting a water station at the Toronto Marathon, and we're seeking enthusiastic volunteers like you to represent the Foundation. As we cheer on the runners and ensure they stay hydrated, you'll play a vital role in supporting this exciting event.

    ***Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult

    The date is: Sunday May 5th, 2024
    The start time is: 6:30 a m
    The end time is: 12:00 pm (latest)
    Training: We will be holding a virtual train in g meeting for all SickKids volunteers on Wednesday, May 1st at 4 pm . You will receive a link to the meeting the week prior.

    Location: The SickKids water station is located along Lake shore, around the area of Exhibition Place . The exact location will be shared closer to e vent day. Volunteers must check in there with the Volunteer Captain by 6:30 am .

    Toronto Marathon Aid Stations Overview

    Runner Start Times: Marathon 7:30 - Relay 7:50 - 5k and 10k 8:00 - Half Marathon (walk) 8:00, Run at 8:30am.

    • Arrival: Stations captain will accept the delivery supplies beginning at 5:45 AM. Volunteers must arrive by 6:30 a.m.
    • Kits: (1 box tissue, gloves, chalk, pitchers, garbage bags) rake, shovel, hose, tubs, stir sticks.
    • Table Setup : Tables must be set-up so that Water comes before Nuun and must be placed 10' to 20' apart. Do Not Put Tables on the stre e t . Fill cups 3/4 and cover entire tables – cups must be continuously refilled as runners pass.
    • During the Race: Volunteers will have specific duties - mixing, pouring, handing out, and cleaning up. NOTES: Do not put fingers in cups. Do not crowd runners. Stay to side. Only hold 1 cup in each hand. Relay participants m ay be present at station - ensure participants to stay on the sidewalk until ready to tag team m ate. The rear escort vehicle must pass before dismantling station. Gels: Stagger volunteers with gels in each hand following last table–
      saying "gels" as runners pass.
    • Nuun Mixing Instructions: Attach hose to hydrant and let run for 2-3 minutes before filling tubs etc. Rinse tubs first. Use hose to fill tubs and pitchers to fill cups. Add 1 foil packet Nuun for 5 gal, m ix well. Coolers are 5 gal and the tubs are 10 gal. Yield 100 cups/5 gal.
    • Clean up : The rear escort vehicle must pass before dismantling the station. Stations must be cleaned up before the team can leave. Rinse tubs/coolers well, roll up hose and assist clean up crew to load trucks. Make sure all garbage is cleaned up and put by the road for garbage
      truck.
    • Medical: We have medical coverage on the course which includes Marshals/Bike Marshals, 2 Med vans, and EMS units and a full medical team at the finish line. EMS and St. John's
      Ambulance will be stationed at Finish Line and at several points along the route. If you require an ambulance Call 911, identify yourself as a TM marshal and give exact location.
