As the Technical Support Supervisor, you will lead the strategic planning, project management, and delivery of civil engineering and water resource management services as part of our ROD Engineering teams.

You will serve as the engineering authority for ensuring worker safety and public safety at water control structures, including dams, bridges and roads.

You will also provide expertise for approvals under legislation and policies, resolution of complex engineering problems, and contractual and legal issues.

In addition, you will provide leadership in hydrogeological and other water resource expertise, support, policy interpretation, and knowledge transfer to ministry program, regional, and district staff.

What can I expect to do in this role?: Reporting to the Manager, Technical Support Services, you will:

  • Lead, supervise and direct the work of full time and contract/temporary staff while providing technical and professional advice and guidance.
  • Plan and implement the unit's work program, including target setting, work program and capital planning, and managing the section operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide leadership in the management of Crown assets, such as dams, roads and bridges through scheduling inspections, dam safety reviews, maintenance, repair, replacement or decommissioning.
  • Manage projects, specialist consultants and contract management for major capital construction projects (e.g. water control structures, fishways, roads and bridges) and for complex investigations or engineering projects.
  • Review and issue plans and specifications approvals for projects plans & specifications under the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act (LRIA) and provide direction on precautions to be taken related to construction of emergency dams.
  • Serve as advisor to the Branch & Regional Directors, Regional/District Managers and staff on legislation/policy interpretation and water resource management issues with significant engineering components and aspects.
  • Support innovation and introduce new technology concepts to further resource management objectives.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships within the ministry and externally.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of an Occupational Health and Safety program that complies with the OHS Act and other related legislation, standards and management principles.

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • You have a degree in Civil Engineering.
  • You must be licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).

Leadership and Management Skills:


  • You have demonstrated leadership and managerial skills to lead, motivate and develop staff, and to successfully implement change.
  • You have the demonstrated ability to identify and successfully resolve complex and contentious issues.
  • You have the demonstrated project management skills, coordinating abilities and results orientation to ensure that major construction, maintenance and inspection projects reach timely and successful conclusions.
  • You have demonstrated the
    leadership behaviors, attributes and mindsets to lead the OPS into the future.

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

You have advanced knowledge of civil engineering theory, principles and practices as applied to natural resource management and conservation with a focus on water resource management, as well as a good understanding of hydrogeological methods and techniques.
