Job Title:
Government and Community Relations Specialist

Work Arrangement:
This role is primarily based in the Edmonton Corporate Office with occasional work-from-home flexibility.

  • Office hours are Monday to Friday, but hours will vary based on the needs of the Executive Office and Chief of Staff.
  • The Government and Community Relations Specialist should be comfortable attending to duties, events, and requests afterhours and on the weekend as required.

Position Overview:


The
Government and Community Relations Specialist will be responsible for for a range of strategic and administrative duties supporting and in collaboration with the Chief of Staff.

The Government and Community Relations Specialist must be comfortable managing multiple shifting priorities and dealing with emergent requests that are often time sensitive and will be accountable for the following duties in collaboration with Flairs Chief of Staff:

  • Manage and distribute project material and follow up on action items.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of annual and project work plans, budgets, action plans, and annual reports.
  • Prepare letters in response to federal, provincial, and municipal government initial consultation notifications.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of federal, provincial, and municipal government legislation, policy, programs, and projects.
  • Administer funding and contribution agreements using project management principles, tools, and established GR financial policies and systems.
  • Liaise efficiently with external lobbyists, government, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to the development of efficient document management systems.
  • Prepare reports, memos, and briefings for internal and external parties.
  • Schedule meetings, take accurate meeting minutes, and distribute reports accordingly.
  • Represent Flair at external meetings, forums, and workshops as assigned.
  • Develop action plans for activities and procedures in the interest of Flair.
  • Assist in developing annual and monthly reporting to the Chief of Staff.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Flair policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Contribute effectively as a team member to the overall plans and objectives of Flair.
  • Contribute to the Government Relations team's responsibilities, including the development of the annual Government relations strategic plan, collaboration with the Flair internal government relations team, participation in initiatives, workshops, conferences, and communication strategies.

Additional Duties Include:

Community Relations:


  • Brainstorm, plan, and manage activities to achieve public relations goals and execute events aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Organize community outreach programs and coordinate special events to promote Flair's ideas, products, or services.
  • Work closely with the communications team to promote Flair within the community.
  • Attend relevant events and activities to represent Flair and build strong relationships with key community members.
  • Respond to inquiries from community members and other parties.
  • Organize and coordinate Chamber renewals.
  • Communicate Chamber events and work with the Chief Of Staff to coordinate internal stakeholder representation.
  • Communicate Chamber of Commerce events that Flair internal team members can participate in.
  • Schedule and help with support coordinate chamber member presentations. (Coffee with the Chamber, Business leader's presentations, Flair Economical Impact Study).

Business Awards

  • Keep electronic database of all proposals, business award summaries, contracts, reports, risk assessments, close out checklists, amendments and any other award related documents.
  • Track awards and subawards closeouts.
  • Coordinate and ensure award close out plans are developed for all the awards before the end dates, and coordinate the close out meetings.
  • Coordinate with Chief Of Staff to draft full award packages.
  • Coordinate with Chief Of Staff on company submission plan for 2024/2025.

Qualifications & Requirements:

- **Education**:
  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Event coordination
  • Successful completion of a course in business administration, fundraising, public affairs, creative or technical writing.

- **Experience**:
  • At least two years of experience in public relations or a related field.

- **Competencies**:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- **Requirements**:
  • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction
