    Description

    Our team is looking for a Health & Safety Supervisor for one of our clients in Vancouver, BC. This candidate will oversee, support and promote Occupational Health & Safety in a transportation construction project.

    Experience/Qualifications

    • Health and Safety Certificate and/or Diploma.
    • Safety Officer (CSO) Certification is required. ASTTBC CSO or CSO(P) Accreditation or working towards the designation.
    • of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or is working towards the designation.
    • 5 years of Construction/Infrastructure health and safety experience.
    • Control Management (Traffic Control Person – TCP) with current certification is an asset.
    • Occupational First Aid Attendant Level 2 or 3 is preferred.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist site operations with compliance to current Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and safety rules.
    • Liaise with Site Superintendents on a regular basis relating to health and safety-related matters.
    • Educate and guide Site Superintendents on safety best practices, OHS legislation, and site-specific safety-related matters/requirements.
    • Train, Coach, and guide site superintendents, employees, and subcontractors to ensure that unsafe conditions/acts are corrected and safe work practices are followed.
    • Assist with the completion of all required paperwork in a timely fashion.
    • Maintain subcontractor pre-qualification and SDS documentation.
    • Be up to date on all activities at site operations; provide a positive safety role model and support.
    • Maintain safety standards with minimal interruption to site operations.
    • Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective action as required.
    • Ensure all safe job procedures are available for crews to review.
    • Conduct follow-up with injured workers as necessary – including up-to-date documentation, action items and return-to-work programs.
    • Assist with other duties as assigned upon completion of required site safety duties.
    • Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation and records for all injuries/illnesses in the First Aid Record Book
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation for site safety records on the site (investigations, near misses, incidents)
    • Organize and schedule required safety training.
    • Ensure that adequate first aid coverage is always available.
    • Provide direction, support and resources to all site managers, supervisors, foremen and safety advisors.
    • Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately to all required parties.
    • Review subcontractor's and supplier's site-specific health and safety management system and training to meet the local regulatory requirements.
    • Implement and maintain health and safety records for all areas.
    • Analyze and identify leading and lagging trends to assist in incident/injury prevention.
    • Compile reports to update ongoing safety processes and address current issues.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Above-average analytical and organizational skills needed to complete reports and documentation.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
    • Demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
    • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a large and complex network.
    • Demonstrated good leadership, supervision, and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Proven computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are essential.
    • Road construction/maintenance experience.
    • Valid BC Driver's license and a positive driving record.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and WorkSafeBC regulations.
    • Must be physically fit and prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Exceptional communication, listening and problem-solving skills.
    • Exceptional accident investigation practices and interview skills.
    • Previous experience in working with Union environments (this position is except).
    • Knowledge and application of ISO 18001, 9001, 1401 systems.
    • Knowledge of Ministry of Transport & Infrastructure (MoTI) specifications
