Position Summary


This position is part of a team that provides a safe and comfortable building environment for clients and staff including assisting with the maintenance of the building exterior and interior, physical plant, all building systems, and the surrounding grounds, as well as provides sanitation and cleaning.

In the absence of the Facilities Supervisor, assumes responsibility for prioritizing daily tasks of the team.


Hours/Schedule
Regular Full-time 40 hours per week;Thursday to Monday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

Hours could change and evenings may be required.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Complete assigned facility workorders for repairs, maintenance and preventative tasks timely and thoroughly.
  • Complete regular review of the condition of the facility, on a timely basis, in conjunction with the supervisor.
  • Conduct required readings on heating plant and HVAC equipment, including logging pertinent data in logbooks, in conjunction with the supervisor, per schedules.
  • Complete adjustments and required repairs, as assigned or by following instructions, to The Salvation Army standards and in accordance with maintenance procedures.
  • Clean, maintain, and service equipment and tools; perform maintenance on small engines; ensure proper storage.
  • Ensure the external property is in a safe and clean condition, in all seasons, for pedestrians and vehicles, by removing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots, cleaning sidewalks and removing litter.
  • Maintain the grounds in a tidy and clean condition by mowing lawns, raking and weeding, pruning shrubs and trees, watering, lawns and shrubs/trees, cleaning leaves.
  • Safely operate all assigned company vehicles and related equipment.
  • Complete custodial tasks in accordance with Custodial Standard Operation and Safety; maintain and keep organized, supplies required for site operation; take inventory count, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Complete daily logs and required records for all maintenance, grounds keeping and custodial tasks performed daily.
  • Oversees the team when the supervisor is not onsite; decides on priorities in the absence of Supervisor.
  • Responds to afterhours building emergency calls if the supervisor is not available.

Experience, skills and capabilities:


  • Completed High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
  • Standard First Aid Certification with Level C by an Alberta trainer (can be obtained after hire).
  • A satisfactory Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector search; and Child Intervention Check.
  • Valid Forklift Operator license.
  • Vertical Mast Lift Training (can be obtained after hire).
  • At least one year of related experience in building operations, including heat plant, HVAC and general repairs (i.e., electrical, plumbing) as well as yearround grounds keeping.
  • At least six months experience in custodial duties.
  • Understanding of building operation components (i.e., HVAC, DHW, Fire Protection system).
  • Ability to use computers and related technology (Outlook, Word Processing, and managing EXCEL spreadsheets).
  • Able to proficiently perform necessary maintenance tasks in all, or some, of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry.
  • Can safely and efficiently operate company vehicles and machinery (i.e. grass mowers, snow blower, snow brush, All Terrain Vehicle (Brutus) with various PTO attachments, floor scrubber, extractor, power washer and dryer).
  • Ability to endure frequent walking, bending, lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), as well as ability to stand for extended periods, especially in performing grounds keeping duties (raking leaves, grass cutting, snow shoveling).
  • Comfortable climbing on and working off ladders at various heights (painting, dusting, changing light bulbs, cleaning eavestrough, pruning trees), as well as performing various maintenance and cleaning tasks from an elevated platform (30+ feet above ground).
  • Able to attend to the worksite outside of regular schedule, including very early hours (4:00 am) in all weather conditions (i.e. clearing snow during heavy snowfalls).
  • Background check consent.
