    Job Summary
    Reporting to the Manager, Traffic Engineering, you will be responsible for undertaking road safety investigations, analyzing data, preparing reports and making recommendations; responding to road safety inquiries; assist with administering road safety initiatives and programs; implementation of new policies; and providing technical support to meet Corporate, Commission and Department objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operational issues; analysis of vehicular and pedestrian traffic data.
    • Conduct on-site field investigations and assessments.
    • Leverage the traffic operations database (TES) to conduct transportation data collection, analysis and prepare technical reports.
    • Assist the Manager in administering Markham's traffic safety programs and initiatives, including education, enforcement and engineering strategies.
    • Assist with the speed management and annual traffic count data collection programs.
    • Provide support with the implementation of Active School Travel (AST) initiatives.
    • Attending public, Committee and Council meetings as required; work outside regular business hours as required.
    • Regularly undertake comprehensive technical studies; organize data in a structured traceable and proficient manner.
    • Develop creative and innovative problem-solving solutions.
    • Review and critique technical reports and engineering drawings; create formal reports, by-law proposals, and presentations for Council and public meetings.
    • Ability to work effectively with all levels of municipal staff, developers, engineers, planners, other professionals and the general public.
    • Regularly demonstrate knowledge and ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/ self-management and accountability and flexibility/ adaptability.
    • Continuously exercise critical thinking during the execution of all key duties and responsibilities.
    • Other duties as assigned.
