Our team is currently hiring for a permanent full-time Environmental Services Manager.

Reporting to the Administrator, the Environmental Services Manager position is a critical role with overall accountability for the management and leadership of operational activities within the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments.


As part of our team, your role as an Environmental Services Manager contributes to our resident experiences in the following ways:

  • Planning, coordinating, directing and monitoring effectiveness of all operational activities within the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments, ensuring those activities are aligned to the home's strategic plan, mission and values.
  • Overseeing recruitment, employee and labour relations, payroll and benefits, orientation, occupational and nonoccupational injury/illness, performance management, training, education and other people related functions within the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant legislation including but not limited to: Ministry Acts, regulations, policies and procedures, directives, and collective agreements.
  • Manages and oversees routine and preventative maintenance activities for all areas of the building, inclusive of the outside grounds, mechanical equipment, life safety systems and all other building support systems to ensure optimal effectiveness.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance activities are completed and documented utilizing the Maintenance electronic platform and a proper inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies are maintained.
  • Manages and oversees the timely and efficient laundering of linen and resident's personal clothing and ensures the building, including equipment, furnishings and fixtures are sanitized and maintained in a good state.
  • Fosters effective interpersonal relationships between residents, families and other interdisciplinary team members in relation to building maintenance issues, laundry and housekeeping concerns.
  • Provides financial leadership by managing and monitoring the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance budgets and fiscal plans. Takes appropriate action where variances are identified to bring expenditures in line within the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance budgets.
  • Participates in strategic planning for the home and leads and participates in committees as required.
  • Maintains an organized system of records management for the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments.
  • Works in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • A post secondary diploma or degree from a community college or university.
  • Must have a minimum of two years' demonstrated experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity, preferably in longterm care or a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of evidencebased practices and prevailing best practices related to housekeeping, laundry and maintenance.
  • Must have a minimum of threefive years of experience working in an Environmental Services capacity, preferably in the longterm care sector.
  • Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Building Code, Fire Code and other pertinent legislation which influences the general safety and maintenance aspects of the operation.
  • Strong relationship building abilities and organizing skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
  • Ability to read and interrupt equipment manuals, architectural, mechanical or electrical drawings.
  • Must posses excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computerized documentation systems.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector check.
