Relay is entering an exciting new chapter of growth. We're looking for a

Controller to help us design and build our Accounting engine to support significant growth and scale. In this role, you'll get the opportunity to lead our accounting function and manage all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance to the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial reporting. This is a unique opportunity to build out our Accounting department from the ground up

What You'll Be Doing:

Manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, ARs/APs, tax compliance, etc.
Build, lead, and develop a highperforming accounting team and support their growth and professional development
Standardize our accounting procedures across both Relay's US and Canadian entities
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Prepare the company to go through audit and act as the point of contact for external auditors
Maintain compliance with government agencies
Partner with the leadership team to provide recommendations on the financial implications of business activities
Develop a strong accounting practice at Relay by building a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration

Who You Are:

You have 57+ years of accounting experience, preferably with some of that in the tech startup universe
You have a CPA or CA designation or are on track to obtain one
You have experience building, developing, and managing an accounting team
You have a strong working knowledge of payroll processing software like Humi, Gusto, Dext. etc.
You've worked in a company with a SaaS and/or usagebased business models
You have strong attention to detail and know how to ensure your reports are errorfree, clear, and concise
You love contributing to the development of an accounting function, which may include things like process improvements, documentation, and developing standardized procedures
You get excited taking a company through audit and can share learnings from previous experiences
You have experience with multicurrency and multientity consolidated reportingYou're highly collaborative and know how to communicate the financials to stakeholders across teams to drive the business forward
You can rise to a challenge and handle change and uncertainty at times we are a startup after all
You live in Toronto or the GTA; we work in the office two days a week

Bonus Points:

You have experience with assurance and/or audit
You have experience with IFRS and/or US GAAP
You've worked at one of the big four accounting firms
