Applications are invited for the position of Communications Technician in the Information Technology Services department, located at the Welland Campus.

The starting hourly rate is $27.81/hr (Pay Band E - $27.81/hr to $32.24/hr) for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate the Niagara College switchboard queue using telephone agent softphones or in the event of a contact center system outage using agent physical phones on campus
  • Answer external/internal calls for all campus and office locations and college tenants, directing calls, information and events to the appropriate person, skillset, service delivery area and/or to website
  • Implement emergency procedures and protocols and provides scripted responses to callers in a calm manner
  • Program the voice recognition/automated attendant system and office telephone system for department and service and menu changes
  • Provide information to college employees on currently available cellular service plans and mobile device models
  • Maintain inventory of college issued mobile phones, telephone lines, trunks, and stocking physical phones
  • Review monthly telephone company, telephone service provider, mobility service provider and network cabling invoices for accuracy and integrity, assigning distributions, scanning and recording financial documents
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for internal chargebacks and tenant authorizations to invoice forms

Qualifications:


  • Two (2) year diploma in Business Administration, Office Administration, Computer Sciences or related field of study
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in switchboard operation in a medium to large business environment
  • Superior communication, problem solving, and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent organizational/time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to gather information with precision and attention to detail, maintaining technical and financial documentation and records

Internal employees are those classified as full-time permanent within the Full-Time Support Staff bargaining unit, regular part-time (RPT) employees who have completed probation, and Appendix D employees with six consecutive months of Appendix D service with the College at the time of posting.
