    MASC is seeking a part-time Communications Director to bring their creative expertise to our team

    MASC is a dynamic charitable organization that (for over 34 years) has brought professional artists from diverse cultural backgrounds into schools and communities. We aim to deepen awareness and encourage understanding through our bilingual performances, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs offered in both French and English.

    The Communications Director will be responsible for MASC's communications strategies, which include writing all communications and marketing copy, developing strategies, create multimedia promotions, management of mass marketing (MailChimp, direct mail), website management, media relations, community engagement, and social media. The position is supported by interns and involves work with a Graphic Designer.

    MASC is looking for an organized, creative, and efficient person who believes in targeted, engaging communication. Someone who enjoys making a difference through the arts and working with a fun, dynamic team. This position requires a person who takes initiative, identifies and solves issues, and works well in a team and on their own – sometimes under pressure.

    Position: Three-day remote position (in-office available if desired), 24 hours/week, 52 weeks/year

    Annual 3-day/week salary range (commensurate with experience): $34,-$37,

    Benefits plan: life and long-term disability insurance

    Vacation: 9 days paid vacation annually (3 weeks pro-rated)

    Sick days: 6 days paid annually

    Start Date: August

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for the vision and action in two key areas: Marketing and Communications.

    MARKETING (promoting programs and events to our community)

    Marketing Strategy: Ensure the best and most effective marketing techniques are used to reach key audiences: mass email marketing, possibly direct mail, and database management. Expand MASC's marketing reach and engagement. Create an annual strategy; manage a yearly marketing calendar; analysis of marketing statistics.

    Marketing Materials: With the Graphic Designer and MASC team, create monthly e-flyers, event posters, brochures, website imagery, social media graphics, and more.

    Social Media: Increase MASC's social media engagement through dynamic, frequent, and engaging presence across several platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter)). Intern support is available at times.

    Multimedia Promotions: Maintain and renew image database, create slide shows, PowerPoints, manage video production (often in partnership with contracted video professionals), showcase videos via website/social media/events.

    CRM Management: Maximize use of present tools (FileMaker Pro and MailChimp) for emails and requiring database management and marketing statistics.

    Intern Management: Manage interns who provide tangible support to this position.

    COMMUNICATIONS (maintaining connections with our community, sharing our stories and the benefits of community arts education)

    Communications Strategy: Determine messaging and annual calendar in partnership with staff. Identify the best communication tools to be used, how often etc. as guided by communication trends and MASC data analysis.

    Communications Materials: Write Annual Reports, social media posts, monthly newsletters, and other public communications. Develop fundraising campaigns, regularly update website including event registration forms and more.

    Public relations: Write press releases, interviews, articles.

    Research Compile quotes and statistics from Arts Education and Community Engaged Arts sources to support press releases, grant applications, speeches etc.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in both English and French.
  • Post-secondary education in relevant discipline(s) or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 4+ years of professional experience with a strong record of accomplishment of leadership through similar positions and/or freelance projects
  • In-depth knowledge of communications and marketing strategies with a proven ability to plan, organize and prioritize: Social media postings WordPress management Analysis of website/social media algorithms Advertising Media relations CRM tools/databases/MailChimp

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexible work offered. Staff currently work from home with the option of in-office work ( Holland Ave. Ottawa). The balance of time in the office and remote work is presently guided by staff choice and organizational needs.
  • MASC hosts several events offsite. Occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Extended periods (more than one hour) of sitting and typing at desk and on screen.
