About the Role:


You will contribute by:


Create compelling content:


  • Daily reporting, writing, presenting and creating of content for broadcast and online.
  • Generate and develop original and enterprising story ideas.
  • Model and encourage fresh, compelling and enterprising storytelling.
  • Help ensure audience interest drives content decisions.
  • Help build value around top stories.

Day-to-day operations:


  • Take part in regular editorial and planning meetings.
  • Help develop and implement new work processes.
  • Schedule reporters and digital journalists.
  • Be first point of contact for reporter/DJ issues and concerns.
  • Vet reporter/DJ scripts as needed.

Coach and engage:


  • Lead and guide reporters and digital journalists while supporting other members of the newsroom.
  • Regularly review and provide feedback on reporter/DJ stories including writing style, story structure, use of sound, graphics and video.
  • Conduct regular sessions with team to inform, educate and celebrate success.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and quarterly checkins with direct reports.
  • Communicate and model Corus Values.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, communications or a related field.
  • At least ten years of reporting experience with a proven record of strong news judgment,
  • A natural leader and effective communicator with a positive outlook and vision for the future.
  • Able to supervise staff, enhancing teamwork, engagement and content.
  • Expert in television news with a solid understanding of online and radio news.
  • Passionate about journalism, especially local news.
  • Highly motivated, organized, innovative and able to make quick and effective decisions under pressure.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract.
