    MASIV | Architectural Technologist | 2024 | Calgary, ABMASIV (est is an Architectural Design, Fabrication, and Build company that fuses design, technology, and construction to innovate multi-scale products and environments.

    SummaryMASIV is seeking a passionate and driven Architectural Technologist to join our dynamic team of innovators, creators, and problem solvers.

    As part of our collaborative environment, you'll be immersed in diverse projects, ranging from residential architectural design and planning to sustainable construction practices and placemaking initiatives.

    Working under the guidance of experienced designers and makers, you'll have the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, contributing to the conception, development, and execution of architectural, fabrication, and public art projects.

    Your role will involve active participation in design charrettes, site visits, and client meetings, providing invaluable hands-on experience in all phases of the architectural process.

    Based at our headquarters in Calgary, AB, you'll work closely with our team to ensure that design concepts align with project goals and client expectations.

    This position offers a platform for you to cultivate your creativity, refine your technical skills, and gain practical insights into the field of architecture and design.

    Architectural TechnologistReporting to: CEO on a day-to-day basis and to the Shop and Site Supervisors for project workStart date: May 13, 2024Location: Calgary, ABPay range: Starting at $25/hour, and commensurate with experienceResponsibilitiesCore projects include architectural residential design for single family homes, duplexes, row homes, townhomes, missing middle homes, architectural fabrication, public art, millworking, furniture, and in-built projectsPreparing a complete set of working drawings, including plot plansAble to create new complete construction details as requestedReview contract documents and customer redlines to make customer changes to standard plansReview & understand Architectural control guidelinesCommunicate changes and/or modifications effectively to Area ManagersProvide complete work order packages to estimatorsContribute to the creation of company graphic and architectural design standardsContribute to the conception and development of architectural designs, models, and visualizations to guide architectural design processes

    Visualization:

    Develop 3D renderings, and illustrations to inform and express research and design concepts to the team, clients, and the publicCollaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects of varying levels, designers, and fabricatorsCommunicate ideas, work, and progress clearly, including by engaging in team meetings, presentations, and other creative communication outletsTo take responsibility where required by the project leaders for specific areas of the design, fabrication and project developmentTo create fabrication and shop drawings, assembly and installation procedures, and liaise with the fabrication staff for productionTo give support where needed to colleagues working on other projects within the design, architectural, and industrial teamTo seek continual professional development within the design disciplineThorough knowledge of and compliance with MASIV procedures and standardsTo contribute, or otherwise assist as requiredQualities and skills requiredA minimum of 1-3 years of residential drafting experience in the Canadian construction industryExperience in an architecture or developer studioPortfolio demonstrating out-of-the-box thinking and stellar taste in designA solid aptitude for digital design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, etc.

    Knowledge in Rhino, Grasshopper, Blender, etc.

    would be an assetA proven track record of innovative interior details and elevation designsA solid understanding of the residential construction processes, building materials, permit processes, etc.

    A solid understanding of the NBC AE 2019 and current land use bylaws for Calgary and surrounding areasStrong understanding of architectural design standards, composition, form, and colorStrong commitment to the team; maintains positive working relationships with diverse people, including internal team and external partnersEmbodies ethics and integrity in all work, respecting both company and broader community policies in all conductStrong knowledge in structural design and building scienceAble to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilitiesA high attention to detail and thirst for learning new skillsResilient to coping with conflicting demandsAble to work under pressure and to tight deadlinesExcellent organizational skillsAble to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential informationSelf-motivated and able to take responsibilityAble to manage and prioritize tasks and time efficientlyAble to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasksGood interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of an effective teamFlexible attitudeAble to build good relationships at all levels, internally and externallyDesirableThe above description reflects the core activities of the role but is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties within the group/department may be required in addition to changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time.
