    Director of Finance / Corporate Controller

    Toronto, ON

    $150,000 - $180,000 base plus 20-25% bonus and great benefits

    Our client is a real estate company with a mission to create warm environments for residents. They are looking to hire a dedicated Director of Finance to join the growing team. This position will offer the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the lives of residents.


    The Finance Director will be responsible for the completeness and integrity of the financial systems and controls, financial and regulatory reporting, taxation, valuations and financings among other things.

    This is a tremendous opportunity to evolve and manage robust financial processes, lead a team of six and drive cross-functional collaboration at a dynamic company with a great culture.


    Responsibilities:

    • Direct and manage the reporting entities' corporate accounting and reporting functions including month end, quarter end, yearend close and external audits to ensure accurate and timely reporting of the financial results
    • Lead external financial reporting requirements for a growing portfolio of closed & openended funds, as well as the preparation of materials for the Board of Directors and annual financial statements and results
    • Support the review of investors reports
    • Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective and efficient internal controls and relevant policies for key processes to ensure the integrity of financial reports for all reporting entities
    • Develop, amend and maintain accounting policies, memos, and procedures which may impact financial results and / or presentation
    • Manage income tax and HST compliance obligations for the reporting entities and proactively coordinate with the external tax advisors
    • Serve as primary contact and proactively work with the external auditors, lenders, external valuers and CRA to ensure positive outcomes
    • Manage external accountants and auditors, annual audit and review processes, support the preparation of tax returns and slips
    • Support the CFO on new asset/site acquisition financings, subsequent refinancings, and associated lender reporting
    • Work with the external valuers for valuation of projects for financial reporting or lenders
    • Prepare meaningful financial analysis to provide financial insights for better decision making
    • Help maintain a strong operational framework for the Finance group that empowers the team to work in an agile manner; participate in the ongoing evaluation and improvement of related systems, processes and tools

    Requirements:

    • CPA designation and university degree in business management, finance or accounting
    • 7+ years of experience in finance and accounting
    • Some level of operational finance experience
    • Must have real estate development experience
    • Previous external audit experience is preferred
    • Proven experience systems and process optimization
