    Responsibilities

    Position Summary

    The Actuarial Co-op Student will gain exposure to pricing, reserving and product development work in commercial and travel insurance. The student will work directly with department leaders in the underwriting and actuarial spaces to address business issues and gain the skills necessary to translate business requirements into tangible solutions to actuarial business partners.

    Qualifications

    Main Responsibilities of the role:
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of premium benchmarking tools
    • Support ongoing efforts to improve pricing model documentation, governance, and audit-compliance
    • Streamline the collection of exposure data from pricing tools; learn about data pipeline development and data warehousing practices
    • Support VP Actuary with quarterly reserve analysis; apply knowledge of statistical software, databases, and spreadsheets to streamline and automate routine tasks
    • Support Chief Risk Officer with enterprise risk management tasks and reporting
    • Assist with monthly-end reports including rate monitoring, claims tracking, and IBNR adequacy
    • Emphasis on learning actuarial techniques and gaining exposure to other functional areas, such as underwriting, claims handling, and product development
    Qualifications
    • University degree in progress - opportunity to grow into a fulltime role after graduation
    • Actuarial, Finance, or Math major preferred
    • Completion of at least one actuarial exam
    • Previous exposure to any of the following is an asset:
      • Programming Languages (ex. Python, R, SQL)
      • Visualization tools (ex. PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik)
      • Automation/Insurance tools (ex. VBA, SAS, ResQ, Arius)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word and Excel
    • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills
    • Comfortable working under pressure and against tight deadlines
