- Receive Child Protection reports and assess to determine if they meet the criteria for investigation as per the Child Protection Act and how quickly a worker needs to respond.
- Provide Focused Intervention service to families and children in order to mitigate the child protection risk in accordance with the Child Protection Act, and Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families, and MCPEI protocol.
- Gather and review file information, contact collateral sources for information, including accessing and retrieving relevant reports.
- Conduct interviews with children, parents, caregivers, Pride and other relevant sources of information.
- Conduct home visits with Pride to interview family members and assess living conditions.
- Arrange for and attend medical exams for children, as well as arrange to have a child's mental or emotional well-being assessed.
- Conduct in-depth clinical assessments from a historical trauma- based approach.
- Develop appropriate case plans for clients and families to reduce the risk of harm to children. This includes ongoing contact with families in the form of announced and unannounced home visits, telephone calls, office visits, and gathering information from collateral sources.
- Ongoing risk assessment to determine if the safety concerns are being mitigated, and appropriate actions taken to ensure safety of a child in accordance with the Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families. This can include Alternate placements, taking children into the Custody and Guardianship of the Director of Child Protection.
- Plan, develop, and implement general and targeted recruitment initiatives in response to the demand for foster care resources; and other duties as required.
- Eligible for travel reimbursement as per the Collective Agreement.

This is a Senior Child Protection Social Worker position with the primary responsibility of working independently while delivering a continuum of child protection services.
Each position will primarily focus on delivering either Investigation services or Focused Intervention or Children Services, to the Abegweit and Lennox Island First Nation.
As a delegated senior child protection social worker, the incumbent is responsible for delivering child protection services to Indigenous children and families in a manner that promotes and preserves the Indigenous cultural identity of children and families.
