In-office work is based out of Meadowlark Health and Shopping Centre (156 street and 87 avenue) and our QICs travel to physician's medical clinics around the City of Edmonton.

This position is hybrid-eligible to participate in a remote work arrangement.

Objective:

Quality Improvement Consultants (QICs) leverage various quality improvement (QI) methodologies to help support and improve quality within all aspects of the organization through relationship building, engagement and facilitation.

ABOUT THE EDMONTON WEST PRIMARY CARE NETWORK:

With a mission to support family physicians in improving primary care through relationships, collaboration and innovation, Primary Care Networks (PCN) are groups of family doctors who work with other health professionals to coordinate the comprehensive delivery of primary care services for their patients.

Our team of health professionals includes Nurses, Dietitians, Pharmacists, Behavioural Health Consultants, Social Workers and Exercise Specialists who collaborate to provide comprehensive primary care services for the community.

Qualifications:


  • An undergraduate degree in healthcare, health promotion, public health, business, data analytics, health informatics, social sciences and/or related field is required.
  • Professional development in atleast one of the following areas: project management, change management, business/root cause analysis, data analysis, process mapping and/or quality improvement methodology (i.e. Lean Six Sigma, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School) is required in addition to an undergraduate degree.
  • Personal interest and qualifications to support coaching, facilitation and building enthusiasm for change.

Previous Experience:


  • Previous work experience and/or exposure to quality improvement and change management in practice. A minimum of 5 years working in healthcare or quality, particularly in primary care is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including outlook, word, excel and PowerPoint) with ability to learn and use other technology platforms including electronic medical records. Strong communication skills including business writing.
  • Demonstrated facilitation experience including development and delivery of presentations and workshops to large audiences.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle for travel between clinics and meetings.
  • Awareness and understanding of privacy laws relating to the Health Information Act.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Develop professional, trusting relationships with all stakeholders (including physicians, clinic staff and Managers) supported by regular and timely engagement.
  • Engage with and understand clinic team goals for improvement.
  • Objectively assess physician readiness for change, current state of practice and develop recommendations for improvement.
  • Leverage structured approaches to change (i.e Model for Improvement, Sequence to Achieve Change, AIM etc) to achieve clinic goals toward patient's medical home optimization.
  • Champion and support the development and implementation of quality improvement measures within clinic teams.
  • Leverage your enthusiasm to act as a change champion to inspire and support your stakeholders.
  • Utilize your project management skills to develop robust QI project workplans for each improvement initiative.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction to various stakeholders to assist them in understanding, utilizing and implementing process improvement strategies and methodologies.
  • Provide knowledge translation by engaging with others to support the scale and spread of best practices.

Key Deliverables:


  • Development of positive relationships with team members, clinics and physicians in QIC portfolio including partnership with respective interdisciplinary clinicians and Managers, Clinical Services
  • Leadership of Quality Improvement projects through all stages of the project lifecycle for each participating clinic
  • Provision of followup coaching throughout improvement cycle to support measurable change
  • Support clinical excellence through identification of best practices to scale and spread QI projects internally (where applicable) and across EWPCN clinics
