The Centre for Faculty Development (CFD) was founded in 2002 as a partnership between St. Michael's Hospital (now known as Unity Health Toronto) and the University of Toronto (UofT), Temerty Faculty of Medicine. It is positioned as an Extra Departmental Unit within UofT.

This unique Centre is known for the strength and relevance of its faculty development programming that is delivered to interprofessional audiences and its internationally recognized scholarship.


The CFD is committed to supporting health professionals across their multiple education roles and activities - including teaching, academic leadership, scholarship, and advocacy, regardless if they hold a formal faculty role.

The CFD provides flexible and adaptable programming that is responsive to emerging needs, facilitates communities and networking, and supports capacity building across the system.

More specifically the CFD's offerings include longitudinal programs, individual workshops, curated lists of resources, and faculty development consultations with local, national, and international partners.


The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Develop and implement an overarching communications strategy and plan for the Centre;
  • Lead initiativespecific communications strategy, planning, and content (e.g. programs, membership, evaluation) that align with the broader Centre strategy and priorities;
  • Support new and existing communities of practice and our Centre's membership program;
  • Develop compelling content that promotes the Centre's brand, impact, and reach across diverse audience groups.


The Education Coordinator, Communications and Community is a reliable, creative, self-motivated individual with exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated commitment to customer service.

The success and reputation of the Centre for Faculty Development are highly contingent upon the ability of this individual to be tactful, diplomatic, decisive, and independent in their role.

Note that this role is based primarily out of the St. Michael's Hospital/Li Ka Shing site.


Duties & Responsibilities:


_ Communications Strategy_- Work independently to develop a communications strategy and plan, engaging internal and external stakeholders

  • Develop content for website and social media platforms (e.g., news stories, member profiles, and promotional content to drive program registration and engagement)
  • Develop communications content that propels the CFD brand
  • Develop communications content and processes that can be easily adopted and supported by the broader coordinators team
  • Work with Centre Director, Associate Directors, and Administrative Coordinator to organize special events (including virtual and inperson events)
  • Support the development of new marketing and communications materials on the web, for social media and in print related to our strategic initiatives, membership, programs, research and evaluation activities
  • Oversee the Centre's electronic newsletter, website, promotional materials, including the creation of content and materials
  • Oversee the design and development of the Centre's annual report (including coordination of content from contributors, writing of copy, proofreading and ensuring a consistent voice in document)
  • Develop strategies for increasing faculty awareness of the activities of the Centre
  • Liaise with UHT and U of T partners to continuously promote and sustain growth, brand recognition and meaningful presence within the community we serve
  • Explore opportunities for greater awareness of the CFD across the health disciplines, and opportunities to increase program enrollment through targeted outreach

_ Membership and Community Coordination_- Support existing and new communities of practice, by connecting with leads and members, determining needs and helping to facilitate mechanisms to promote communication, networking, and dissemination of activities/events

  • Ensure the smooth running of sessions both inperson and online
  • Work with Centre Director, Associate Directors, and Administrative Coordinator to organize special membership or portfolio specific events
  • Maintain inhouse procedures manual for this particular aspect of the position (outline standards of practice, protocols, procedures, timelines, etc.)
  • Coordinate and process invoicing and payments, update budget documents regularly, reconcile monthly expenditures and revenue and maintain electronic database records for all invoices/payments/financial transactions related to membership and communities of practice
  • Build out Community specific pages on CFD website, including complete list of members, and opportunities to profile activities

Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field (e.g. Education, Communications) or equivalent professional experience
