Position Description:


As an active member of the leadership team, the Clinical Manager will be responsible for the clinical supervision and human resource management of counsellors and staff working at Family Services Ottawa including child and youth counsellors/psychotherapists.

The incumbent will be responsible for regularly scheduled supervision with counsellors, consultation on case specific issues that arise through daily practice, and facilitation of peer consultation groups as required.


Our Clinical Managers are role models and, through effective communication, foster a spirit of collaboration, support organizational objectives and model the values of the organization.

The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day issues of services delivery and the maintenance of records. The responsibilities will include monitoring program objectives and making recommendations to improve programs and services. The incumbent will ensure that appropriate review and evaluation processes are in place and maintaining these processes.

The responsibilities of the Clinical Manager include ensuring that clinical records and program specific requirements are met through the approaches and parameters of the counselling services provided in assigned programs.

Staff human resources responsibilities include hiring, scheduling, onboarding, performance management, leave approval etc.

Our Clinical Managers are assigned to support counsellors who are scheduled to work at least one evening per week. The incumbent will also support FSO's after hours on call team as scheduled.


About You


You have a Master's degree in social work, counselling or equivalent and you maintain registration with the College of Social Workers, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or equivalent professional organization; must meet the competency standards for counselling and supervision as outlined in the standards of the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy, 2012.

You have formal training in clinical supervision with significant supervisory experience, preferably the mental health field and in a unionized environment


You have at least five (5) years' experience providing direct counselling in a multi-disciplinary setting including experience providing direct counselling to children, youth and their families.


In addition you will bring:

  • A strong knowledge of multiple counselling modalities & approaches
  • Experience with and knowledge of diagnosed mental health issues
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families
  • Experience working with trauma
  • Awareness of recent developments in neuroscience
  • Good understanding of the dynamics involved in violence against women
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English, these skills in a second language are highly desirable
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation / learning
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills; proficiency with technology including client management systems, MS Office 36
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, as well as the ability to work as part of a team within the management group
  • Demonstrated ability to model and support counsellors in ethical behaviors and decision making
  • The ability to manage time and resources effectively; handling pressure and changing work demands
  • Knowledge of the network of social services


The starting salary range for this full-time position is $ 76,343.00 to $87, annually depending on an individual's relevant experience.
