MANAGER, CONSERVATION SERVICES:

The Capital Stewardship Branch is looking for a Manager Conservation Services for an indeterminate position. The position is classified as a RÉ-06 ($83,979 to $113,423 per annum—salary under review).

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager Conservation Services is responsible for the planning and supervision of the Conservation Officer team. The manager ensures that the team achieves its objectives and responds to public and media inquiries.

As a peace officer, the manager also enforces regulations in the field to ensure respect of laws and regulations as well as public safety.

The incumbent is also responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with organizations as well with, municipal, regional and federal police forces.

The incumbent coordinates team participation in public relations programs to educate and raise public awareness. The incumbent is required to prepare reports and manage both administrative and financial components of the office.

The manager provides high-level client services to both internal and external clients by responding in a timely, respectful, constructive and responsive manner.

The Manager Conservation Services demonstrate leadership and foster team development and spirit.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION:

A degree from recognized post-secondary institutions in Natural Resource Protection, Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement, Law Enforcement or in a related field.


EXPERIENCE :
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the following areas:

  • In managing and coordinating shift schedules to ensure appropriate deployment and timely response to public safety issues.
  • In field patrolling and enforcing laws and regulations.
  • In coordinating and prioritizing response to public inquiries.
  • In building and maintaining partnerships with municipal, regional and provincial partners and stakeholders to ensure a common approach to issues and resolution.
  • In attending Provincial Court, by testifying and presenting evidence as required.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Of the implementation of an enforcement program revolving around natural resources law enforcement.
  • Of appropriate federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations governing the protection of assets and natural resources.
  • Of court proceeding related to infractions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Possess or eligible to obtain secret security clearance.
  • Meet criteria to obtain Peace Officer Status.
  • Possess a valid driver's licence and a good driver's abstract.
  • Successfully complete a Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE).
  • Undergo Psychological assessment.
  • Linguistic profile: Bilingual CBC.
  • Will be required to work shifts, weekends and evenings, outside of regular working hours and respond to emergency calls.
  • Work in climatic conditions that at times can be difficult.
