Research Assistant

JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration.

We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.

JIAS Toronto is currently seeking a
Research Assistant to work closely with the Data and Evaluations team.

This full-time position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and requires the incumbent to be between the ages of 18 to 30 years of age and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
This position will pay $18 per hour up to 330 hours.



RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Conduct immigration policy scan
  • Conduct environmental scan on areas of importance to the agency
  • Literature review on best practices in serving specific populations to inform the work of the group programs team (e.g. mental health groups for LGBTQ+ newcomers)
  • Compile and prepare for presentation to management team
  • Notetake in focus groups
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a business administration, communications, social sciences or a related field
  • Experience in conducting research (literature reviews, surveys, interviews, or focus groups)
  • Proficient with the collection and entry of data
  • Experience in reaching and interpreting policies will be an asset
  • Experience in policy writing will be considered an asset
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar client record management systems
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Fluency in languages that relate to the Agency client base will be considered an asset such as Hebrew, Russian, Arabic, Tigrinya, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, etc.
