Job Description

Important Note: We are looking for a Journeyman Machinist with a specific skill set as below:

Work consists of 80% Manual/ 20% CNC

Manual Equipment - Lathe Machine, Vertical Milling, Horizontal Milling, Surface Grinder, Brand Saw & Hand Tools/Preparation
CNC – HAAS Mini Mill

Schedule: Monday to Friday (8 hour days)

Specific Responsibilities:

Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.......
Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.......
Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.......
Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances
Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.......
Prepare samples according to CSA, ASTM and ASME standards & customer requirements
Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information
Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations, near miss and hazard reporting as required

Qualifications

Education: Third to fourth the year apprentice or certified journeyperson, holding a valid recognized credential

Certification: Working toward Interprovincial Standards Red Seal

Experience : 3 + years

Specific technical skills:

Mechanical-- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Work consists of 80% Manual/ 20% CNC

Manual Equipment - Lathe Machine, Vertical Milling, Horizontal Milling, Surface Grinder, Brand Saw & Hand Tools/Preparation
CNC – HAAS Mini Mill

Mathematics -- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

the ability to use their hands skillfully and quickly
the ability to estimate and measure sizes and lengths accurately
strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to handle items weighing up to 25 kilograms.
the ability to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort
basic computer knowledge
Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiply projects in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work well with independently
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
Ability to work well with others & independently.
Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Works well under pressure.
Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
